My whirlpool duet WFW9400SW04 FRONT LOAD WASHER has just stared making a horrible, loud knocking sound during the spin cycle in the last two days. Tried running it on a cycle without clothes and it started...

Check shock absorbers, but Bearings and / or spider arm most likely bad. If so, that's a major repair and expense.

Washing machine making loud roaring sound during spin cycle

Very likely the main bearing and drum shaft-inner tub will need replace. Not worth repairing, easily can cost more than the washer. Buy a new whirlpool front load duet, super capacity or the top load whirlpool with and agitator. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Sounds like the drum, balance weights have come off, to me. This will cause those symptoms.

Whirlpool Duet WFW9200SQ has knocking sound located under drum under or near motor. Knocks during spin up and down cycle and on last highest spin.

the problem is a cracked spindle on the back of the drum. It most likely also tore up the grey plastic front shield.The only thing to do is throw the machine out sine the drum cost parts onle is over $400 for drum, and over $400 for the front plastic.l

No spin cycle on Whirlpool duet model ghw9100

If front loader, take top off (dissconnect plug) check the beltmay be broken- the motor may be spinning on its own
Also spin the drum round to make it has'nt seized

The bearings is gone in the drum, causing the drum to rub and run the wrong way one the pully, yes it is very exspensive, I have the newer model.

i would open the door nad with your hand (glove on if preferred), feel around the intereior of drom for prhaps a nails, or hair clip that has gotten caught in one of the many holes in tub

Take the top off the unit,and check the springs..there are 4 on top and 4 on the bottom..make sure they a attached..and tighten

Ours had a problem with flexing of the outer casing during highspeed spin, which caused a loud noise. Technician called it "oil canning". The fix from Whirlpool was a couple steel plates w/adhesive that stiffened the shell to prevent excessive flexing.
