To toggle the embedded numberic keypad Hold down the blue Fn (function) key and press NumLk.

SOURCE: FN + F11 "turned on" at boot up

This feature is turned on and off in the system BIOS.

During startup, hit either the DEL or the F2 key to enter the setup.

Read through the items found there until you find the keyboard options.

There're no free support. Acer will charge $60 for a 30 minutes phone consultation. $200 for unlimited consultation. They will fix it if it's still under warranty. You can also send it to their repair center. It will cost probably $200 also for them to fix it. Try this:

1. go to device manager
2. Highlite USB host controller
3. Click On the "Action" Tab at the top
4. Click on "Scan for harware changes"
5. Restart your laptop.

Have you tried pressing the No lock or the FN+number lock

on my acer it is on the top of my keyboard on the F11 key

so i would press either the F11 key or try FN+F11

The keyboard on this model and lots of others have a built in 10 key number pad that is activated by a key combination. In this case num lock activated by pressing Fn+Scroll. The Fn key is to the right of the left Ctrl key and the Scroll key is in the top row upper right hand corner and doubles as the num lock key when the Fn key is pressed at the same time.

Vostro 1000 Fn locked

This is ****. Respondent doesn't know the model in question and his suggestion is of no help--there is no "blue lock" graphic imprinted anywhere on the Vostro 1000 keyboard. A user with this sort of question is already frustrated and does not need his desperation exacerbated by a nonsensical response from someone calling himself "RescueTech".
The user, on the other hand, may be excused for believing the problem is a locked Fn key--Dell does you no favours by printing the alternate number labelling in blue, AND the problem is reversed as long as the Fn key is held down--but the actual culprit is Num Lk. You'll find it on the top-most row, five keys from the upper-right-hand corner. Press it once and your problem will vanish.

Boot to your Bios and look in advanced for num lock and disable.

or

go to run in the start menu.
typ: regedit.

Go to: HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard
Then String value- InitialKeyboardIndicators right click click modify then choose a number below.

Explaination numbers.

0= Truns Off, Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock
1= Turns On Caps Lock,
2= Turns ON Num Lock,
3= Turns On Caps Lock, and Num Lock
4= Turns ON Scroll Lock
5= Turns on Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock
6= Turns On Num Lock, and Scroll Lock
7= Turns On Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock

Fn key on dell inspiron 1501 keyboard not working

Sounds like your number lock is on. Find the key with blue lettering that says 'Num Lk' (or something very similar). Press Fn and that key, and your number lock will be turned off and your keys will go back to normal.

I think for your laptop the number lock key is a second function... Try holding down the function (Fn) key and pressing the F11 key, hopefully that will turn your number lock on/off.
