I took the disk changer apart to re-cage the mechanism holding the CD in place when it is playing. It had basically jammed the drawer from opening or closing properly. I had to remove the four tension springs holding the carrier and did not realize that these springs were all different tensions and color coded. I did not put them back correctly and need to know which spring goes where according to tension. Right now the player "skips" while playing but it was working perfecty before all this happened. What are the proper placements of these four springs?

Mike, you will have to take machine apart and locate drawer release pin or take a chance and pry on drawer with butter knife while continually pressing eject button. Check links below for more methods of opening CD drawer. press the helpful button
Part Number VQ776900. I got it online for 99 cents but other places can be up to 7-8.00 dollars. I removed 5 screws on the sides and rear of the case. Took case off. Press the open button and help the drawer open with your hand while the motor tries to. Then remove old belt with pliers or paper clip, etc. I did not take anything apart on the inside to replace the belt. Push the belt into the player over the larger wheel and then I pulled the belt with a paper clip over the smaller drive wheel.
This will require a professional, the more CD'S this unit can take the more complicated the loading bay will be. The most common problem is gear timing where the system is knocked out of sync and often locks down the device to prevent further damage. Sometimes the gears will strip jamming whole mechanism.
THis happens when the drawer is jammed. Turn off the unit and turn it on and then use the disc skip from the remote so that the cds inside will change and then press the Open button.
sounds like they may have forgotten to take out transit plugs from radio which holds cd mechanism in place when shipping unless you got a new radio thats a dud? but that may also mean dealer didnt check operation of new unit after replacement if replaced which is what usually needs to be done when this error message comes up
2000 bmw 528i,my cd changer also reads no cds, this seem to be a common problem with all bmw cd changer.Anyway i removed the cd changer from my car, took the outside black cover apart only to see that a white big wheel came of its place,(its the wheel that holds the cd in place from the top (bottom wheel is black attached directly to the motor,as the cd is sandwitched between the black, and white wheels) .if that wheel is out of place the cd will not turn inside the changer for the eye to read it,so your radio screen will read NO CD OR NO DISC.Very easy fix, just place the wheel in its place, and everything worked fine,it took me 20 minutes to fix. p.s : 1- you do need to make sure you have an original cd in for testing it. 2- you do not need to recode your cd changer at the dealer if you have an old bmw, dealer will need to recode cd changers for 2006 and up. Good luck.
I had this happen to me as ell. you've probably got a cd stuck under the revolving tray. I took the top cover off and then opened the drawer and removed the offending disk. If you're not technically minded it's probably better to take it in to a repair shop.
