I suspect a Light Engine problem. I would call a service company for that particular problem.

I believe it is the digital projection chip that is beginning to fail. Causing white and black spots to appear. To repair this may cost more than a new tv. If you want to attempt it yourself check out the above link. Hope this helps

Black spot on screen

Your son turned on the closed captioning text mode. The black box is where it would appear if there were any text. Go into your setup menu and turn off the captioning, or restore the factory presets.

Black and white screen...

The color wheel can cause a black and white picture but not the jumpy or negative look.
Those symptoms are usually caused by the DMD assy which drives the color wheel and is somewhat expensive, most of the time you can purchase the whole Light Engine which includes the DMD assy for the same price.

Samsung Model HLR6167W

Does the TV appear to be cycling on and off, like its attempting to boot up? Or, does it just not come on at all? Don't miss the lamp door interlock switch. Many Samsung DLPs have tempermental door switches. Try re-installing the door or manually hold the switch in the closed postion and try to power it up. If the lamp comes on and stays lit, you've found your problem.

I have a SAMSUNG DLP model HLR6167w with a problem. I just changed the light hoping this would fix the problem. When the problem first occurred, I could barely make out the picture, and it was very green...

You need to do an aggressive reset on the TV. This solved problem completely for me. You must unplug the TV when it is on. Repeat this several times until the TV is jolted back into the factory default settings. The issue is actually with the programming I believe. The clue was that the display worked 100% perfect in HDMI mode, and the problem only existed in the cable setting, no matter if wires were attached or not.

Again, do an aggressive reset to the TV by unplugging it several times while it is on. It may not register the reset at first because after all, the actual problem is a programming issue and it's having trouble recognizing commands in the first place.

Good luck!!

No picture, but it does have sound. HLN617W

This sounds similar to the same problem I had with my TV. I went out and purchased a new light thinking it was the source of the problem, but I was wrong. It turns out the color wheel and fan went bad and it cost roughly $575.00 for the parts and labor to fix it. My tv was the hlr6167w

Display images missing on MP3, background black!

You can set one of your own pictures as the background by viewing it and holding down the center touch pad button. The bottom of the screen will say Set Wallpaper and you can let go of the button. now that picture will be set as your background image
