I want to clean the squirl cage fan on my Carrier handler. It's 12 years old and never really been cleaned. What is the best cleaning procedure to maximize its efficiency.

Use a vacuum cleaner, the small round end.

Instead of spraying vinegar, i would say spray wd-40 spray.That will keep the fan and its internal assembly clean and not let the fan movement get tight and rusted.It will not allow the parts to get tight and rusted.-------- But once you spray wd-40, you have to let it remain there for 30 minutes to 1 hour, then turn the unit on .The wd-40 spray takes time to show its effect.--------- The wd-40 spray is easily available at local walmart and homedepot stores or at appliance parts repairs store.---------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

what is the fan on and what type is it? Condensing unit or furnace? Propeller or squirl cage?

No. This can be caused my a dirty squirrel cage on the blower motor which is found in your air handler in the attic. Probably needs to be pulled out and cleaned. This noise is caused by the blower wheel out of blanace.

If you can get to the whole water trough to coat it, I recommend you get some spray undercoating or a product like "Phil Swift" promotes on TV and spray it on the affected area.

I think your talking about the heater fan? If you hear more noise as you increase the blower speed, there is something in the squirl cage or a problem with the blower motor itself. Leaves, paper or something lite on the pass side floor, it will get sucked into the recirculation duct,causing a noise.Remove the blower motor and clean out any debris, and inspect the squirl cage and turn the motor by hand to see if you hear any noise

this one is carrier AC with bad blower motor. Hope This Helps.

Pull the refrig out from the wall , and remove the rear panel . Touch the compressor and feel if its hot or running . If the compressor is cool , then the main control board is bad ( since the compressor isn't running ) . If you can solder , you can repair the board (another paragraph ) . If the compressor is warm , then you could have a thermistor or 2 bad . This would have to be checked by a technician , unless you know how to get into the diagnostics procedure . Also , see if the compressor cooling fan is working and the black squirl cage is clean of dust .

Hi there. Clean both fans if dirty. (inside and outside) Check for foreign objects like insulation caught in the squirl cage blower. Make sure unit is level. Check for vibrating tubes.

The loud buzzing soud i found to be the fan blower motor. I removed the fan bracket assembly and sprayed a little WD-40 on the set screws and protruding shaft so that sqirrel cages could be removed. (Also marked position of set screws on shaft) once squirrel cages were removed I removed 4 motor mounting bolts. Cleaned sqirrel cages and housings with industrial strenghth rim cleaner to remove solid dirt and will replace motor and capacitor.
