Since there are currently two types of formats (PAL and NTSC), the above problems occur if the format of the DVD and the system of the TV are incompatible.
If it is falling to this group, then you should confirm the TV in the system, the TV must be adjusted to the PAL or NTSC system based on the region you are in. When the TV system is also selected correctly, the DVD is also adjusted to the corresponding standard.
You can check on this article for some detailed reasons and more solutions for each issue:

SOURCE: TV plays color, dvd black and white
Hello again, well, it seems as though the circuit board in the back of the tv was the culprit. He hooked the dvd to the front of the tv and it now works! Poor Dad, and everyone thot it was him!
He did learn a quick lesson on "Button Pushing" though!
Thank you so much for taking the time to help figure this out. Have a great week!
SOURCE: DVD Player won't play movies in color
It could be the av cables being faulty or shorted. Try replacing them with another set and see if it goes away.
SOURCE: DVD disks just play in black and white. No color.
This is because of the audio video format issue. You select the TV type to auto (Advisable) or to the appropriate selection such as PAL or NTSC in the DVD player to get the better output with the color.
This selection you usually find in settings > Video setup> TV Type

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. Please check that all the cables
are firmly plugged in and are selected in the setup menu for the kind of cable
you are using viz. component, S-video or composite. If still the issue is not
resolved then you’ll need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Please
do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further
assistance.
Thanks
