I have a failed Saniplus with a humming motor. I intend to open it up and inspect the capacitor. I wonder if the failure was due to the "capacitor plague" problem [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague] and not overheating from an object. If it is an electrolytic capacitor and it was bulging and split at the top or bottom, it may be. Thanks for the write-up and the instructions from Saniflo - very necessary because who knew pumping sh*t uphill involved so many parts!

Garbage disposal won't work. It just makes a humming noise

might be something lodged in it, like a spoon or something. Turn it off and fish around in it with your hands.

I get power through the reset button. No humming, no nothing. Is it a bad motor?

If i understand correctly, you tested the wires where they connect to the garbage disposal.
Those wires connect before the garbage disposal reset button.
If the reset button is locked in, then the reset is not popped out.
If reset will not reset, then the popped-out reset will push in but not click down.

If the reset is clicked in, and you hve 120V on the line, and the garbage disposal doesn't make any noise, then the motor is bad.
There are no replacement parts for garbage disposal.

Garbage disposle makes a humming noise when turned on. InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal

Did you also hear any clattering sounds when it started? If so, it is rotating. If not then this hum is the motor in the lock rotor stage. Did you place garbage in it yet? Always run cool water in it when starting it.

My garbage disposal is not working. Making humming sound when turned on. I tried to press the red reset button but to no avail. Also tried to turn the little dosposal wrench in bottom hole of disposal but...

It is most likely plugged up there is a clap with a butterfly bolt that you turn counter clockwise remove the clamp and have a trash can under it and wiggle it to remove the lower half of the disposal, when it comes off dump it out and clean with fresh water. Then with hands free of the pump turn the disposal back on, it if still hums the motor is bad and you will have to replace..

Garbage disposal hum

Hi, Hit the reset again. It sounds like the cutter is lacked up some way. Try using a long wooden spoon ar something simular and see if you ca free up the cutter. If the cutter is free and it still will not work, you will probably need a new disposal. If you are getting no noise after you hit the reset, chack your breakers to make sure there is power to the unit. I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
