Top part of base broke off

Hi. I have a 2 speed Oster blender. The top part of the base broke off...I think it is called a coupler?! (Basically, the top part of the base that turns the blender broke.) The part that broke was a rubber circle that holds the little mushroom shaped part on to the base. Is this fixable?

This just happened to me too, and I think I just fixed it.  First you have to get a replacement part called the "blender coupling" (I got mine online from Goodmans for $3.99).  I also replaced the square drive and slinger (two parts come together for $2.99)-that's the little part that sticks up and attaches to the pitcher.
Unscrew the bottom four screws of the base where the rubber feet are.  Remove the rubber skirt to reveal four screws that hold the motor in.  They are way in there so you'll need a long screw driver.  Remove the motor and unscrew the old coupling.  Mine had not been replaced since my grandmother bought this blender who knows when, so the coupling was really stuck.  I did not have a tool narrow enough to get a good grip to apply enough torque to remove the coupling so I had to try a few other tricks.  If your blender is the same, remove the bottom nut, fan blade and two washers.  This gave enough of a rod to grip to get the old coupling off.  (I also had to use some WD40, and heat and cool the coupling a few times to break the old seal).
Good luck!  Hope that helps!

How can I change the blade for my 2 speed hand mixer? The model type is NC-12 if you need to know

you are using your KitchenAid blender and it stops blending, you may think there is a problem with the motor in your machine. However, a common reason for the blades not rotating in the blender is a dirty or faulty coupler. The coupler is what connects your blender dispenser to the motor, and you can easily replace the coupler at any time by only using a screwdriver.
Things You'll Need
  • Flat-blade screwdriver
    • 1 Turn the blender dispenser clockwise and lift up to remove it. Set the blender dispenser aside.
    • 2 Insert a flat-blade screwdriver between the black drive coupler and the frame of the blender on the top center portion of the blender.
    • 3 Lift the screwdriver upward, and the coupler will start to bend out of place. Slightly turn the coupler and then lift up on the screwdriver again.
    • 4 Continue to move the coupler slightly and lift the screwdriver until the coupler is completely removed.
    • 5 Insert the new coupler over the blender's motor blade and then twist the coupler counter-clockwise until it is tightly fastened.

There is liquid leaking through the bearing on the base that adapts to the motor. Is there a service repair center in my area, my zip code is 60415?

Oster.com shows one Oster service center in Illinois:

Household Appliance Sales and Service 7034 North Milwaukee Avenue
Niles, Illinois
60714-3707
Phone: 847-647-8250
Fax: 847-647-2214

It's a roughly 45-minute drive from your zip code, according to Google Maps. You may want to call them with a description of your problem and see if they can service. There are also several locations in PA that will service Oster blenders.

My blender base has become discoloured with a sort of green mouldy streaks, how do i clean

If you remove the blinder base where the blades are you can put it all in the dishwasher. To do this grab the handle on the pitcher then unscrew the plastic base from the glass. make sure that you look how it comes apart first. then put in the dishwasher to clean. Then reassemble the way you took apart.

If you used a credit card to pay for it, check to see if your credit card provides extended warranty protection. Usually those programs will double the original warranty period. If you have it then your credit card company should pay to have the unit replaced.

It looks like you line up the threads, place the base on, and twist to tighten.

Replacing rubber drive coupling

My coupler was split in two, and I couldn't screw it off. I had to do the following:
1. Take the blender apart (mine had 2 screws on the bottom). 2. Remove the motor housing from the blender (mine was loose from removing the two screws earlier). 3. Remove the fan by removing the fan nut. 4. Take apart the motor housing. Mine had two machine screws with 1/4" hex heads holding a bracket that tied the two ends together. Once those two screws are removed, you can take the motor out of the housing. Be careful on the fan end of the motor, because it's got two spring loaded brushes that will come together once the motor is pulled through. 6. Once you have the motor out of the housing, you'll have something to grab onto so you'll be able to unscrew the broken coupler. I used a pair of channel locks and gently grasped the motor body, and then just used a regular pair of pliers to grab the broken coupler. It's regular thread (lefty lucy righty tighty), so twist accordingly.
Once you have the coupler off, just put everything back together. The hardest part is holding apart the spring loaded brushes while you push the fan end of the motor shaft back through the motor housing.
Took me about 20 minutes to do everything.
Good luck.

I have an Oster blender, model #6710, and the gear on the bottom of the pitcher where it sets in to the base has become unsaudered. I have only had the blender for 4 years. Is this unusual or normal...

The part that you need is available from Oster, and their phone number is 1-800-334-0759. Their standard warranty is 1-year, so you would probably have to pay for the part. 4 years is decent for a blender - if you replace the part, an Oster will most likely last many years longer. While it is not uncompletely unheard of for a blender blade assembly to come unhinged, it is statistically infrequent - the replacement part will most likely last as long or much longer.
