It may not be dead yet. Does it supply output? You have not mentioned. It would be considered dead if it does not give any output. Is the battery fine? If the battery is fine and there is no output then it may be dead.
So, check the battery for any sign of life.
Check the output.
Check output with it plugged into mains.
If all are negative then it is dead.

PR1500 is completely dead. No lights. Pressing reset buttons does nothing. Possible electrical storm hit. Took other equipment out as well.

srogers583, Check to see if external fuse or internal fuse may have gone "open circuit" during a feeder line transient spike. Is PR1500 used in residential or industrial location? If unit was not on a "surge-transient" protected ac feeder line, unit may need to be repaired at CyberPower. 12fixlouie

Power light is out. Is the unit dead?

Atypically if this is an older unit what you have is an issue with the battery. It will no longer hold a charge.

You will nee d to go to the vendor site and look for a replacement battery.

In some cases it may be less headache and cost just to buy a new one.

Failure to initialize after a microsoft update was installed

Go into the control panel and find the device manager. Then locate the UPS unit and right click and update driver. Then pick roll-back driver. This should install the prevous driver that was working properly. Then when you do windows update make sure to set it to hide that update so you don't re-install it again.

CP685AVR/BF685 Power Contro.

It is likely the battery. These batteries are designed to last 3-6 years in a UPS. The good news is that if it is the battery, it is completely user replaceable and you'll have a Cyber Power unit that works just like new with a new battery. What may have happened is that the battery was weak, and you may have had a slight dip in the AC power. This caused the Cyberpower unit to switch over to the weak battery which couldn't handle the load. The unit then turned off. When you press the "ON" button, the unit will go through a self-test that checks all of the components and the unit will not turn on and be functional unless all of the components come back with a PASS, including the battery. If possible, test the battery with a voltmeter, it should read around 13.5, but not lower than 11.5v DC. However, with the unit over 3 years old, it almost certainly the battery. Here's a link to a replacement battery for the CP685AVR: http://www.batteryinternational.com/cyber-power-cp685avr-ups-battery-ups-batteries-f1.html

Hope this helps.

Unit went dead and then replugged in and then worked...

It would appear that you need to replace the battery on this unit
You could get a new battery from a local battery specialty store like Batteries Plus or Interstate Battery, or online at www.replacementupsbattery.com. A new battery would be about $30. If you took your old battery there, they could recycle your old one, as well as match it up with the correct one you would need (HR9-12 battery).

The battery plug in area is dead but the surge protector side works

Hello Vicki,

What you are describing is usually a result of the batteries losing their ability to hold a charge.

The surge protector side does not rely on the batteries.

I found good batteries at a reasonable cost on ebay, but I think you're going to need to replace batteries at this point.

Hope this helps.
