Hey you cannot transfer contact in sd card, unlike the picture images etc. but phone contacts you cannot,
A micro SD memory card is commonly used in cell phones
and other mobile devices. The card is roughly a third of the size of a
typical SD card. Most card readers do not support micro SD cards. There
is a work around, though. The work around basically turns the micro SD
card into a regular size SD card. You can then use the card with other
digital devices, such as digital cameras. With a micro SD card, you can easily transfer pictures, music and video from you phone to your computer.
SOURCE: transferring stored data from micro SD card on G1 to new one
In the case of hidden files on your g1 sd card, you may want to create a disk image of your first sd card.
I had switched my sd card from my blackberry to my new g1. It was formatted as FAT16. I used it for a while, but I didn't want to keep it's current formatting.
I created a disc image on my mac using disk utility, formatted my sd card as FAT32, then restored data again using disk utility.
The same principles apply to your problem. You could do something similar on windows with a program like ImgBurn.
