My Mavica MVC-FD83 runs for a few seconds with a fully charged battery but then after showing a start up menu flicks off again!

  • e_johnson503 Nov 15, 2009

From what I can see,(the contacts are deep in the camera) everything is as clean as a pin.
I have tested the battery with a meter and it registers 8.75volts! So maybe the camera is faulty?
    Thanks for your reply

Your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced, or the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

My sony mavica mvc-fd81 turns on for only seconds, and turns off.

Have you tried another battery?
Even the lithium ions will eventually not hold a re-charge.
If the unit stays on with external power, there is a good possibility that a new battery will solve the issue

Help "for infolithium battery only" mvc-cd400

I've come across a few infolithium batteries which show empty but they have been fully charged. It turned out to be the circuitry in the battery which is supposed to tell you how much power is left being faulty. Both were replaced under warranty. When the fault occured in a Sony 505V the battery was still fully useable apart from the icon flashing flat battery.
