Re: I want to fit a wooden door to a intagrated...
If your dishwasher
door is not closing properly or has developed a leak, it may be time to
replace the entire door assembly. Some other signs of a defective door
include sagging, difficulty pulling the door back up into a closed
position and a door that feels heavier as it drops open. Replacing a
dishwasher door is not that hard, but includes several springs and
hinges that must be aligned correctly or the door will not fit
correctly in the opening.

tep 1
Unplug
the dishwasher and shut off the water before attempting to remove any
parts. If you cannot reach the electrical outlet, you can turn off the
breaker switch that controls the electricity for the kitchen. Remove
the drain hose that runs from the dishwasher unit to the sink drain.
-
Step 2
Pull
the dishwasher out from the cabinet until you have clear access to the
side of the unit. Ask a friend for help with this part if the unit is
too heavy for you to slide out without straining your back.
-
Step 3
Check
your dishwasher's owner's manual to find out exactly how the outer door
panels are removed. Some models have a two-panel door where the control
panel must be removed before the lower panel will come off. Otherwise,
the door panel should be one solid piece or a two-piece assembly that
allows the lower section to be removed separately to access the springs
and hinges.
-
Step 4
Remove
the springs at the bottom of the door. Depending on the type of
dishwasher you have, there may be a tension adjustment dial or simply a
series of holes at different distances from the edge of the unit. If
you have a tension controller, adjust it to a loose setting to make it
easier to remove the door springs. Unhook the door springs from the
hinge plate. Some dishwashers
may have a cable and pulley system attached to the door springs. Check
your owner's manual for removal instructions if this is the case with
your model.
-
Step 5
Use
pliers to gently pull back on the door hinge plate's tab until the slot
opens for the hinge pin to come out. Take out the screws holding the
door hinge plate onto the front of the door panel. Hold onto the door
assembly while gradually opening the door. Once the door drops down,
you should be able to remove it by sliding the door off the hinge pinAlways wear safety glasses when working with the springs and hinges
involved with a dishwasher door assembly. These items can fly off at
high speed and cause serious injury to the eye.
