Rewinding bobbin trying to find a way to get a owners manual for a signature sewing machine that is very old, and I can't find any information to tell me what model it is or how old it is. It has a compartment on the top that lifts for a cam and to rewind the bobbin. It has a button on the bottom for sewing and one for embordery. It also has a spot on top for button holes. can you help me find me some information on this machine. I think the belt (on the outside and is yellow with ribs.) is causing a problem with rewinding the bobbin. The bobbin starts to rewind and it just stops like it has lost the tension on the rewinder. Thank you for your help in this matter. My e-mail address is [email protected].

SOURCE: Thread is bunching underneath fabric

Needle in correct? Be sure your bobbin is not in upside down and turning the wrong way. Possibly the hook that the bobbicase fits in/on has been hit by a needle and caused a burr that is catching the thread as it comes around. The burr would have to be polished off or hook replaced. The machine could be slightly out of time also.

SOURCE: I just purchased a Tacsew

Hi Diane...you can wind bobbins while you are sewing your product, or you can wind them seperately. To wind them seperately, pull out the bobbin case, lift the presser feet up and lock them in the up position, undo the threading beyond the tension assembly. The takeup will create a birdsnest if you don;t pull the thread from it. Wind your bobbins, the re-thread your machine, insert your bobbin case, drop the presser feet, pick up the bobbin thread and sew away. If you need any other input, call me at 888-283-9640.

SOURCE: I am having trouble getting my singer 6199 sewing machine to sew. The top thread will not pick up bot thread. I tried changing needle, changing bobbin, rewinding bobbin, rethreading machine & bobb

did you get the needle in correctly--all the way up into the needle holder
& the flat side of the needle goes to the back of the machine

also after you check the needle & it's in correctly it's very possible that the machine is out of time & a sewing machine repair technican would have to retime the machine

Why would that thread break?

Hello, Pat -

Which thread on your sewing machine are you referring to? With either the top thread or the bottom (bobbin) thread, the problem is most likely due to the tension.

Another reason for the top thread breaking could because the machine is not threaded correctly.

If you have the owner's manual for your sewing machine, check it for the settings for the top thread tension and for the correct threading. Also, check the manual for information on the bobbin (bottom) tension.

This web page gives some generic information on sewing machine tensions:

Another option is that you are using old cotton thread to sew with. Over time cotton thread deteriorates and breaks easily. I only know this from personal experience. :)

When I sew, the stitches are ok but underneath the thread is all mashed up. Is it the wrong bobbin or the tension or the way Im putting in bobbin?

Could be a combination of your suggestions, but the first thing to try is:

Be sure to use a brand new needle.

Remove the thread from the top.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Set the tension dial to the midway point and retest your machine.
Tweak the top tension until the top & bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

You might also want to verify the direction your bobbin needs to turn when inserted into the bobbin case. Your operation manual should have that information.

Of course, if you are using the incorrect bobbin, your machine will not function properly. Bobbins sometimes are very close but just enough different that the machine will malfunction. Check your owner manual for the correct bobbin or ask your local sewing machine shop--tell them the Make & Model machine.

You can try a couple of YouTube videos:

Loading thread on the bobbin old Kenmore sewing machine
(do not wind the bobbin as fast as he does as it tends to stretch the thread and also could cause the spool to fly off the machine!)

Or stop by the local fabric store (or even Amazon online) and pick up a standalone bobbin winder for about $25 US. You can wind all your bobbins on the little unit and not subject your machine to additional wear and tear.

Bobbin rewinder won't work

it's possible that there is a part inside the machine that could be broken, it would be a good idea to have the machine checked.
