Take the back wall off and thaw unit with either hair dryer, heat gun(very carefully), or boiling water in pan and shut door. You will then have to determine if the def. thermostat, def. control or heater is bad.

Model EEV-163F Whirlpool Upright Freezer. Defrosted this week, already seeing ice buildup. Freezer is cold and appears to run fine, but frost buildup seems excessive this quickly. Frost throughout

This freezer is not frost free. Being an upright limiting the amount and frequency of opening the door will reduce the build up of ice. Ice is expected and depending on humidity and quality of seal around door affects the amount of ice.

Using a thin ribbon check the seal integrity around the door. Confirm nothing is prohibiting the full closure of the door.

Adjust door if necessary. Replace seal if defective. Freeze open unsealed items in a frost free freezer before locating frozen food in this unit.

These units are likely located in the garage where the humidity is high. If used only as needed planning transfer between this and the kitchen unit frost can be minimized.

Being a conventional freezer not frost free freezer burn is less likely and frozen food will not dry out as quickly. Confirm that the freezer maintains about 0 degree F.

This unit is likely more efficient and will maintain the food frozen longer in the event of power outage.

Hope this helps?

Side by side whirpool freezer not cooling how to check for defrost problem

The first signs of a defrost problem in a side by side are the fresh food section warms enough to spoil milk and bread. The back wall of the freezer will show frost buildup like in this photo HERE. If you have the frost building in the back of freezer then behind that wall you will most likely see this HERE Look around the fresh food section door frame for a model number like in the photo below.

If the problem is a frost related problem you will need to know what the model number is to decide just what type of defrost componentes your model will need. Decribe your problem a little better and I will tell you what you need to do from there. Just make sure someone has the model number because your model may have electronic defrost controls or a simple defrost timer. The defrost element could be the only problem. Tell me what the temperature is in freezer and what type of frost pattern you have, Sea Breeze

Maytag fridge model# MSD2561HES

Look inside the freezer for frost buildup on the rear wall. Let me know if there is frost building because that would indicate a defrost problem causing the warm up. Also check your model number because you are the only one on the internet with a model MSD2561HES for the USA Once you have the correct number and answer back about the frost buildup I will tell you each step to take solving this problem which I think is a defrost problem at this point, Thanks Sea Breeze I think your model has the adaptive defrost control board that may be at fault=> 4388932 Defrost Control Board

Defrost not working heavy ice build up around coils

Hi

Frost is a natural occurrence on the evaporator coils in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator. To prevent frost buildup, a self-defrosting refrigerator warms the coils using a defrost heater several times each day to melt away the frost. This frost melts into water and flows out of the compartment through the drain. If any part of the defrost system is not working properly, the result can be heavy frost buildup that may affect the cooling capacity of the refrigerator.

The defrost timer is a mechanism that tells the defroster how long to run to melt the frost. The limit switch measures the temperature in the freezer and helps to maintain it, while the heater is the key element that melts the frost. Any one of these components could need replacement at a given time, which will result in this over-frosting.

Stand up freezer builds up frost quickly

It sounds like you may be on the right track here. If the gasket is old, hard, and brittle, it will allow moisture to be administered into the freezer, causing frost buildup. Not to mention, that old door gasket is leaking out a lot of cold air. Your best bet is to provide the model number (as you've shown here) and the serial number to an appliance parts store or authorized GE appliance parts outlet. They should be able to provide you with a brand new gasket. Removal and re-installation of the new gasket is fairly simple and you'll notice a big difference, not only in the lack of frost buildup on the inside of the freezer (especially in the summer) but you may even see a noted improvement on your electric bill as well!

I hope this helps and let me know if you need any further assistance! :)

HELP ME

Remove back wall from inside freezer and melt all frost with a hair blower. The most likely cause of the frost build up is a burnt out defost heater, second most likely cause is the defrost control. Can't give you part numbers because you don't list a model number or even a brand. Melting the frost and not fixing the underlying problem will get your refrig working for a week or so until the frost builds up again.

Freezer frost

An upright freezer that is not frost free will have the coils in the shelves (shelves are non-removeable) and that is where the frost will buildup.  If your model is like this then it will have to be defrosted periodically.  If your not sure then give me the entire model # from the sticker inside the freezer and I will look it up for you.
