If you are referring to a Whirlpool Duet series front loader, the following link can give you some guidance on how to prevent mold, mildew and odors associated with these style washers:
If you are not referring to a front loader, please post back with a complete MODEL NUMBER. I hope you find this information helpful.
NOTE: Because of the mold and mildew problems associated with these washers, the manufacturer now includes many of these recommendations in the owner's manual.
first you have to wash the mold away the next solution is to go to home depot and pick up a product called affresh it cleans out the inside of your washer this is a once every 1-3 months product that will also prolong the life of your washer and all front loaders ive also found that this works great in top loaders as well
The mold is an enzime from the washing detergent or softener. It attacks certain rubbers and causes them to turn black. Eventually it will cause a musty smell which will go on the clothes.
The only way to remove is by replacing the door seal. If you try bleach etc then it will cause the mold to get worse.
this is mold due to the amount of moisture built up during your wash cycle clean the scum using bleach but do not shut your door after you wash so the seal has an opportunity to dry
Common problem. Clean the moulding as best you can, even scour with steel wool. Leave the door open so the machine will be dry when not in use or/and wipe the rubber after each use. You can try to cover up the odour by wiping with a rag moistened with vanilla essence. Otherwise fit a new rubber and keep it dry in future.
aliitle amount of vbleach on a damp warm rag shoudl remove the "mold", cut back on the amount of fabric softener and make sur eyour using an HE detergent ( A MUST FOR FRONT LOADERS)). keep the door ajar between loads will also lessen the build up
LEAVING DOOR OPEN BETWEEN USES ALLOWS WASHER TO BREATHE. BEING A CLOSED SYSTEM, IT'S KIND OF LIKE PUTTING A TUPPERWARE LID ON A BOWL WITH RESIDUE AND MOISTURE INSIDE AND LETTING IT GROW.
