It could be the compressor is going out, or the clutch itself is worn out. If the AC still gets cold, then it is the clutch.

I don't think you will get any knocking from any ac compressor, you may hear loud clicking or squeal but not knocking. I would take it to any garage and any good mechanic can listen to the engine and tell you what the knocking is and if it knocking constant I would not recommend driving the car, it could be more serious problems which may damage your engine more. knocking can cause by bad piston rod or valve taping which can also sound loud like knocking.

My 99 sunfire started making a noise was told ac clutch is bad can I still drive my car or is there a way to just disconnect the clutch I dont use ac at all

You can just disconnect the connector at the compressor and tie it out of the way. If your bearing on the clutch is going bad, then it will eventually seize up causing the belt to make big noise and break.

Clunking sound starting car

could be a bad clutch in the ac pump, try sprayin some wd-40 on the clutch with the ac turned on, this would only be a temp fix if the thump goes away, but will let u know if its the ac clutch

Noise from ac compressor

That would depend on the problem and prices in your area.
You can call around and ask for the cost to replace the ac clutch and the compressor.
If the bearing in the clutch is the noise, the clutch can be replaced without replacing the entire compressor assembly.

Car running rought when u press the throtle there is a nocking noise i think this is the nock senser if i take the ht leads off the spark plugs 1 at a time starting from left they all make a nocking noise...

If you're getting ticking-type knock, I'd first look to the lifters. if it's a real hard knocking, it could be your main bearings on the lower end

The clutch was bad- i took out the old ac compressor and bought a new compressor/clutch . there is no oil added to this one- so what type/how much, etc. also do the condensors need to be replaced or any...

na you dont have to change condenser if it was not leaking.was their gas in the system when you remove the ac copmressor.and for the oil,the ac man should pump the oil when he fills the gas in the system.

Nocking when cold then goes away (Proton coupe )

It sounds like you may have some sludge in your oil. When the engine is cold the oil is thicker and takes a while for the oil pump to pump it through the engine. The next time you change the oil. Do an engine oil flush first to clean the inside of the engine and ports. If this does not work you might have to have the oil pump checked. There is no need to worry as long as you have oil pressure and the knocking stops. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate this answer.

Motor was running smooth new cambelt service ect, adjusted timming because could hear pinning on accelaration switched car off for one hour, while looking for an electrical fault on aircon turned aircon...

if you turned the motor backwards and then tried to start belt could have jumped this is a interferance motor which means the valves overlap the pistons ! you could have bent the valves.take it back to the person who did your timing belt

Screeching noise, then a/c stops blowing cold air. Still blows air, just not cold air.

it could be the air conditioning clutch going out. to check turn your car on and idle it with ac on and hood open. at the ac compressor it will have a pulley on it with a clutch that engages when the air conditioning is on. if it engages and disengages it can be the clutch itself has gone bad, the ac clutch will also disengage if there is not enough freon in the ac system, will also engage and disengage if the pressure gets too high in the ac system. Depending on the year of the vehicle it will disengage at full throttle and come back on when you are not at full throttle.
If it is a metallic sounding screech for example take a coke can and drag it across pavement kind of sound it could be a bad compressor or a bad ac clutch. If it is a more rubbery sound for example a car spinning its tires kind of noise it could be a loose belt.

1. Check to make sure all belts are tight under hood
2. start car and look at ac compressor to make sure compressor pulley is turning and that the fan clutch is engaged spinning
