Update firmware (usually every 6 months). Connect the ethernet to the unit, press Net and Power button simultaneously. Hit Enter as directed. Takes up to 60 minutes. OR (if no internet service), download firmware updates onto a USB (32MB) and connect it to the USB port. If you do not update voluntarily, unit will suddenly not feed video.
If you are used to using an atlas or other map, you probablyalready know that new maps are issued each year because of changes on theroads. The same thing applies to the maps on GPS units. This means that if youhave a GPS unit, you need to update your GPS software regularly to make surethat you have the latest information. Each GPS manufacturer makes softwareupgrades available for GPS unit owners.
Here are tools and instruction below
USB cable (as tool)
1 Visit the website forthe manufacturer of your GPS unit, such as Garmin or Magellan.
2 Go to the"Support" section of the site and then the "Downloads"area. This is where the latest upgrades are available for download.
3 Log in if you already havean account or key in the serial number of your GPS unit. Typically you get onefree upgrade on your unit, which is tracked by the serial number, which is whyyou have to enter it or have an account.
4 View the latest softwareupdates once you are logged in or have entered in the serial number. If you areeligible for the free upgrade, you will see it listed with no cost. If not, youwill see a price listed by the upgrade. Prices vary by manufacturer andupgrade, but average around $80 as of 2010.
5 Download the upgrade to yourcomputer or order the upgrade disk. According to CC Electronics & Gadgets, there is no difference between the two upgrade files. If you want to do animmediate update to the unit, you should download the upgrade instead of waitingfor the disk to arrive by mail.
6 Connect your GPS unit toyour computer with the USB cable that came packaged with it. When you do, theGPS update software will launch on your computer. If you have never installedthe GPS software onto your computer, you will need to use the disk that camewith the unit to install it so that it will launch for you.
7 Confirm that you want tosync the unit with the upgrade file that you download, or on the disk if youare using a disk. This will install the upgrade to your GPS unit. When itcompletes, you will get a message on your screen letting you know that it isdone. You can now disconnect the GPS from the computer.
Thanks
behind the unit where the connection wires are, is a black cable that has a usb plug in the end of it.
although to play ipods in the unit, pioneer recommend using the CD-iU50 adapter cable. a normal ipod cable may work with certain ipods so i would try that first. I am pretty certain that it just wont charge certain ones. if you bought the unit new it should have had a usb extender cable included in the box.
to access the cable you will need to remove the source unit to plug in your ipod cable.
i hope i have helped you and please dont forget to rate.
cheers
plug in your GPS to your computer using a USB cable ( its the same usb cable cameras use to connect to computer
your computer will detect new Hardware (usb port ) minimise the pop up box
next
go to www.MyGarmin.com register your unit there its free, and it will also detect your model of your gps and let you download the lastest Maps and Firmware
Garmin will tell you to download WebUpDater utility to transfers maps to your unit
Its pretty much useless. Unless you can find a wiring schematic from Pioneer for that particular unit. If you managed to obtain a schematic (very unlikely as its Pioneer's property!) you might be able to cut an existing usb connector and join it where the old cable was cut off.
