Can this DVD burner LG GSA 4163B burn dual layer discs?
I have the same drive and had serious problems with dual layer - you must check the write speed of the discs themselves - I had Ritek Extreme dual layer dvds and they dont burn on anything except an older HP dvd writer as they are listed 2.4x on the dvd itself so trying to write them at anything faster doesnt work and this dvd player wont write at such a low speed.
The truth is that the quality of dvd dual layer is even more important than ordinary dvds - in all honesty i cant wait until dvd cd etc are consigned to the bin as they cause so many problems its probably one of the most frustrating areas of problems you can have with pc hardware - even leaving a damaged or incompatilbe dvd in a drive can stop you pc booting or slow it down / crash or even stall windows explorer. I have never spent as much time diagnosing customer hardware faults than i have with dvd writers readers etc
Tdk Dual layer did write once i upgraded the firmware so give a firmware upgrade a go and see if it helps!
Yes... but you need to have a good ammount of RAM memory and Disk drive space to achieve that since dual layer disc are up to 8 gigs..

Hi, I'm having a similar problem. The drive burns DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-R etc without any problems. When I put a dual layer disc in (DVD+R) the drive doesn't recognise the disc as being open/writable and shows used and available space as 0byes. My PC has 1GB of RAM and plenty of HDD space so I don't think the power of m PC is a problem. Any ideas?
