I am trying to scan and edit a document but i get the message "Install the OCR directory from your CD to be able to do this. I have no CD for this. I have a Dell AIO 922 Printer

To scan documents for editing and saving as PDF file, you will need to install the Lexmark OCR scan software on your computer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.

To install the OCR scan software from the printer installation CD:

1. Insert CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the installation screen open, click Cancel.
2. Double-click on My Computer / Computer.
3. Right-click on Lexmark XXXX CD and select Open.
4. Double-click on OCR.
5. Double-click on Setup.exe to install the OCR software. Your operating system will then determine the language in which it is installed.

Try this approach:1. Uninstall your existing printer driver. On your computer, go to Start menu > Programs > Lexmark X5600 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. After the uninstall process, reboot your pc when prompted.2. When your pc turns on, check if your Windows 7 is running on 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. On your computer, go to Start menu > right-click on Computer > click on Properties. Take note of the System Type.3. Use the link below to download and re-install the corresponding printer driver for your operating system:- Lexmark X5650 Printer Driver for Windows 7 32-bit- Lexmark X5650 Printer Driver for Windows 7 64-bitSimply follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete the installation.4. To re-install the Lexmark OCR scan software, insert the printer software installation CD in your pc CD-ROM drive.5. Click on Install > Install Additional Software > select the Lexmark OCR Scan Software > continue with normal installation steps.
Then try to create a PDF or Scan and Edit text (OCR) to verify that the problem is fixed.

Put the CD in the computer
Select "Add more Software"
Check if you have any OCR option
If you have one Install it
Then Try to scan from HP Solution center and select Scan Document
You will be able to Scan to Editable text

Other wise you can purchase a Software RED I.R.I.S.
and then you can directly Scan from the software to editable text.

Most of the time a scanner by default, will scan a document in a tif or other image file format. That means that the scanned image is actually very similar to a photograph. In order to edit the text, you first have to convert the image using something that's called OCR software. OCR is a process that the software uses to look at a scanned document image and determine what characters are on the page. It's not always very accurate but that depends on the quality of the scan and on the OCR software being used. You must have received some sort of scanning software with the scanner. Hopefully it containes some sort of OCR software. Some scanners will save you this extra image manipulation by having a setting that allows you to scan directly to a word document. Usually in that configuration, the OCR software automatically knows to convert the scanned document image in order to automate the process. To scan a document and end up with something you can edit in MS Word (for example) you need OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. OCR software is usually (but not always) bundled with the driver software on the cd accompanying the scanner.

It does not do a perfect job, it usually gets whole sentences wrong and spells words incorrectly, for example. Check your driver cd for a folder or install option with OCR in the title.

hi i thing your software is corumpt and you nead to reinstall it. when you buy your printer you have the cd whit it. but if you don't find it you cant download the torrent of ocr

Or use a different OCR, put the worsd OCR freeware download, on google to get a choice of free OCR software.

go to this site http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downloads/downloads.cgi
put in your country etc.......
choose the x1240 in the driver box.......then search
choose windows vista from the operating dropdown box.......
click on download now and then install the new driver.....
