TRY A COMPANY CALLED GIANT VAC

There is a safety switch to make sure you can not power the unit while it is apart. Sometimes this switch will break when you open the unit. Bottom line most manufactures if electric tools and appliances do not want tou screwing with their stuff.

the diode is bad on the start switch check with a meter for amps

You should have another door that goes in front of the impeller (blade) which doesn't have a vacuum attachment. You should first detach the vacuum door from the bottom, put on the blower tube, and install the other door that came with the blower. Hope that helps.
