Plzzz....Help me out.
i will be eagerly waiting for ur responses.
1. pl confirm ur drive as as sony as AW-Q170A
2. Download both file necflash_wingui.zip and 113bt_rpc1.zip
3. If ur not sure about drive being master or slave turn all the IDE to PIO mode. Pl remember flashing will not be possible if in other mode.
4. Unzip the zip file
5. Run necflash dump the firmweare file at safe location and flash the bin file with 113Bt_prc.bin.
6. Reboot in safe mode. Restore IDE to original mode.
7. Reboot and start normally. Bingo prob is solved
1. Open the Device Manager.
2. Go to the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers item.
3. Open the entry for the IDE Channel that the DVD RW is attached to {either Primary or Secondary.
4. Click on the Advanced tab.
5. Change the Transfer Mode for the AW-Q170A drive to "PIO Only". {you have to know if it's device 0/Master or 1/Slave on the channel.
6. Save settings and reboot.
7. Try to read a DVD and CD with the drive.
8. If that works try to write one or both.
If that doesn't work you will have probably have to flash the drive.
1. Download http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/download/en/5170a/113bt_rpc1.zip
2. Download http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/download/1/5/necflash_wingui.zip
3. Read the instructions at http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/How-to-Flash/binflashgui
4. Unzip the two files, follow the instructions from the link in #3 to flash the drive.
5. The IDE Channel must be in "PIO Only" mode for the flash to work.
6. After the flash is complete, reboot and try the drive again.
Good Luck - It worked for me.
Check that the writable DVDs you are using are compatible (+/-) with your Sony DVD-RAM.
Go to Windows Explorer and check to see if the Sony drive is visible. It may not be connected or the Jumper switch may be set incorrectly.
Check you have drivers installed, take a look in Hardware manager.
Sometimes, it's a little difficult to copy CDs and DVDs when you have more than one burning suite installed - for some reason, they 'just don't get along'. Try uninstalling any suites other than Nero.
Or it may just be that your Sony CD-RW drive is just that, and your DVD-RW drive is just that. So it wouldn't be possible to write DVDs on the CD-RW and CDs on the DVD-RW? Though I would assume Nero would detect that and use your hard-drive as temporary storage.
In Nero SmartStart, have you selected the CD or DVD tab to correspond to the project you're burning?

I am having the same problem with my Sony DVD RW AWQ170a drive. It will not play Audio CDs or DVDs as well as not being able to burn. I did the registry key fix and it took away the yellow arrow from the drive. But it still will not allow me to burn anything at all. I have used Windows Media Player to burn before, and I tried the one solution of changing the Primary and Secondary IDE settings to PIO only, but it didn't help. My cousin who works for Geek Squad seems to think that I need a new drive, while my brother says I need a new IDE cable, that I have a 40 pin cable and need an 80 pin cable. Like I said, I have tried all the options listed on this page, and nothing's worked. So what do I do?
