Did you try to install the drives first? try that. see if the laptop gets an IP from the router (by default 192.168.x.x).

I would also try to plug the laptop directly to the router and see if it works (with network cable plugged between the two)

Internet Connection Issues - Compaq CQ60.

Hi.

First of all go the modem, wireless router or both and turn them off at the source (plug socket) and wait two minutes, while you are waiting go to the laptop and restart it, go back to the modem/router ad turn them/it back on. See if you can connect to the internet when the laptop fully boots up.

Let me know how you get on.

Good luck!

If your cable or DSL modem has a built-in wireless router or the modem is connected to a wireless router, then all you need a PCMCIA wireless card or wireless USB adapter to connect to the Internet via the wireless router.
If you provide me with information with the make and model of your cable/DSL modem and or wireless router, then I will be able to assist you further.

No Internet via zoom X6 wireless router to desk top, lap top ok.

Access your zoom router by using the laptop which still has access to the router.

Your going to have to open your Wireless Network Connection Status window located under your network settings.

If you see this window your going to left click the (details) button

Now you should see a IP DNS server address
for example: 192.168.1.xxx

Type that address onto the address bar of your web browser.

it should take you to your router setup page.

There you will need to check if the lan port is enabled

Have you check your DNS settings within your Wireless Network Adapter TCP/IP properties settings? Or it may be a proxy server or firewall settings wich may block internet access to the internet. Try testing it with your LAN cable first and see if you are able to connect to the internet using that cable from the laptop/pc to the modem. If it works using the network cable then it might be a DNS related issue on your wireless network adapter tcp/ip properties.

My WRT54G2 worked this morning, but not this afternoon.

try powercycling the router. It sounds like the DHCP serviec is hung up. Most likely, this will solve the issue.

After replacing Cable Modem, D-Link DI-524 Wireless will not work

Did you call Comcast and give them the new MAC address of the Motorola SB5101 SURFboard cable modem? I'm surpised it works at all without doing this first. This is the hardware address of your modem so the world can see you, no one in the world has the same MAC address, they are all different. It's on a sticker on the modem.

Cannot access internet with a linksys router

Make sure DHCP is turned off on the modem or else you will get ip conflicts. Also make sure it is plugged into the wan port on the router

Can't get internet access!!

The proper procedure in any router based network is to get the router on the network first. Plug it into the online cable modem and boot it up. Let it sit for a minute and then boot up wired computers one at a time. Use one of the wired PC's to get into the routers GUI (eg. 192.168.1.1) and see if WiFi is turned on and the permissions or wireless access is not being blocked by any security settings like MAC address or IP filters. It should be wide open. You dont need ANY drivers for a router on a PC unless they are USB drivers for a USB connection straight to the router, never seen one but I have seen a cable modem/router that had a USB connection. If your laptop has a USB wireless device, you need to load the drivers for that onto your laptop, but if it is using the built in ethernet port on the rear or a PC card ethernet card, you just need to plug the ethernet cable to the rear of the router and boot up. Make sure your ethernet device is enabled in windows and you should be good to go. After you gain access to the internet on the wireless device, get back into your router, prefferably on the wired computer and lock your network down with security measures like MAC address filtering, WEP, or other means.

X6 modem router

Your ISP probably has some setup requirements from the modem side of the router that will need to be identified.
