YOU NEED TO SUBSCRIBE TO AN HD SERVICE I BELIEVE DIRECT-TV CAN SWAP YOU RECIEVERS FOR AN HD ONE BUT YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO PAY A LITTLE MORE TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE HD CHANNELS. I BELIEVE THE TV YOU HAVE DOES SUPPORT 1080 BUT IT USES A MUCH NARROWER SCREEN SO THE HD CHANNELS MAY LOOK A ALITTLE SQUASHED SINCE THE TRUE 1080 CHANNELS ARE WIDER THAN NORMAL 480.

How do we covert our panasonic TH- 42PWD7B to HD?

Replace it if you want true HD. The TV has 640 × 480 pixels (dots) in use for 16:9 or 852 × 480 dots for 4:3. This translates to 480p or SD resolution.

You can watch an HD signal with downconversion. You will also need a digital to analog converter for OTA signals since the TV doesn't have a digital tuner (ATSC in the US) It reads NTSC, PAL, PAL60, SECAM, Modified NTSC signals in the following formats: 525 (480) / 60i · 60p, 625 (575) / 50i · 50p, 750 (720) / 60p · 50p, 1125 (1080) / 60i · 50i · 24p ·25p · 30p · 24sF ···· SMPTE274M, 1250 (1080) / 50i.

I hope this helps.

How do I change my Olevia 47" from 480 to 1080

The Program you watching sets the res. If you watch a HD 1080 Program it will switch by its self. Most programs are 480 still and you can't watch 480 in 1080 format.

How do I reset big screen tv to 1080 on remote

You don't.
It should automatically switch to 1080 when and only when there is a HD signal present. Otherwise it will be in 480 and you will need to use the format button on the remote to change the picture size. If it does not switch to 1080 and you know for sure you have a true HD signal present, there is a problem with the unit.
Hope this helps,

I just subscribed to HD service, But my mitsubishi 55807 tv wont display 1080 it stays on 480. the server is comcast. can you help?

IYou have to have your comcast box tuned to a channel that is broadcast in HD. On your Comcast remote hit menu. This will bring up several icons, one is HD. Select that icon and it will bring up the TV Guide for just HD channels. Select one and tune to that channel. Once your on that channel use your original remote and hit menu, then advance features, then go down to video display and change it from 480 to 980 or 1080. Let me know if this helps.

HD setup, 480 to 1080 not working.

I had this same problem, got my HD installed yesterday w/ Direct TV, have had this TV since '02. The fact that is wasn't working, and Google, led me to your post in search of answers. I even went to a local retailer that sells the Mitsubishi TV's and they were as helpful as if I had gone to a drug store seeking the answer. So, between browsing other posts, and then going to the manual (who'd of thunk) I got my, and your, answer. You need to do the following, nothing magic: 1)Connect the component video output of the Direct TV HD Receiver to the DTV inputs on your TV. The COMP 1/2 inputs are NOT 1080 compatible, only the DTV input. As another poster said, you must use component video cables, not the old red/yellow/white cables. you can lose too much signal quality w/ the old R/Y/W cables and your TV still won't recognize the 1080. 2)Set your receiver to a HD Channel, which are in the 70's. 3)Use the format selection on your remote and select until you get the 1080i Standard (or whatever your preference is) format. 4)Enjoy Bottom line is the COMP inputs are not HD. Page 64 of the manual (at least the one i downloaded from mitsubishi-tv.com) is what gave me the final piece of the picture. Good Luck!
