What is the difference between a light engine and optical block?

What is the difference between a light engine and an optical block? My Sony has rainbow color splotches all over the screen. KDF-60F655. I heard that there was a recall for this problem, but Sony says that the TV is too old for them to honor it.

Light engine and the optical block are I beleive the same thing. This is an expensive repair.
I also own a 60" Sony rear projection (2 years old and so far so good).

Best of luck to you.

My tv turning green all of sudden Is there a way to reset it back to it orginal colors

Hi,
If tv is Sony KDS-R60XBR1 as shown in question headings then it is problem of optic block (light engine) that needs to be replaced, it is hardware problem that wont get solved by resetting. Optic block is expensive part and qualified tv tech is required to replace it.
If tv model number is different, please post it to provide you info about problem.
Thanks.

My Sony Grand WEGA KFE50A10 50 in. LCD projection TV has a yellow hue over the picture except for the centre where there is a clear circle of perfect picture. I have replaced the lamp but this has made no...

It is the optical block causing the problem. Sony has had recalls on a lot of the LCD rear projection tv's made over the last 6 to 7 years. The cost of the optical block is around 800.00. Due to the cost, I would check with Sony to see if it qualifies as a recall situation.
I hope this helps,

Not a problem - just clarification

They are the same part. Sony reffers to it as the optical block, while other manufacturers call it the light engine.

Blue haze/blue dots on hd tv

You likely have a bad optical block. Sony was supplying the optical block as a warranty repair until June of this year, but that warranty has expired.

They are one in the same IIRC. I'm having my TV repair for the same issue. Don't worry for now because the item has had its warranty extended to Oct 08.
