HDD capacity greater than 128GB with Acer Travelmate 2300

Not knowing what BIOS/CMOS is on an Acer Travelmate 2300, you can try to see if your chip is supported by the following tool:

To upgrade your laptop, you will have to verify the capacity for upgrade of your laptop.

The Acer Travelmate comes with:

Intel Celeron-M 360 Processor 1.4GHz

256MB DDR SDRAM -

40GB Hard Drive

DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive - To read DVDs and CDs and write CDs

15" XGA TFT Screen

Intel 852GM 64MB shared graphics

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition

Based on this information, you can upgrade your memory depending on what type of memory your motherboard supports and how many empty slots for memory does your laptop have.

The hard drive can be upgraded also depending on which hard drives does the BIOS will recognize.

I will suggest to contact ACER and ask for the options and upgrades capacity.

Please keep in mind this unit uses IDE hard drive instead of SATA. The default 2300 uses a 30 GB high-capacity Enhanced-IDE hard disk. With latest BIOS upgrade, this unit will be able to have anything installed. 80GB, 160GB, 250GB, 320GB, 500GB.

However, I believe that IDE hard drives are slowly but surely becoming obsolete and legacy and they seem to be more expensive as well.

No. I have tried a 250 Gb but my 2303 wont carry it. it will only recognize up to 130Gb but I did not try it with a 120Gb internally, my 250Gb IDE -HDD will run as an external but there is a power surge warning that comes up when I connect it, however I can run a 500 Gb SATA HDD with out this happening. What has changed most recently? did they work before? May be disabled in bios, need more info.

Open the memory cover from bottom of the laptop if you can find. And re-plug the memory chips carefully..make sure it be plug in properly. and try switch on again.

Your particular model of laptop will allow up to 2GB of memory. Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.
As for the hard drive, I believe the standard 2.5" drive is compatible in any size you'd prefer.

that way it won't work you have to first remove your RAM and insert the new one and start it
