American Standard Carlyle Series toilet is refilling about 10 percent of the water in the tank every 20 minutes. Do I need to replace the flapper or the entire flush valve?

Start with the flapper. They tend to dry up especially with water that contains chlorine. Purchase the American Standard flapper if available for that toilet. Works better than generics.

American standard toilet doesnt always flush, water swirls around

There is a clog in the line. A plunger usually solves this problem, but you have to use a toilet plunger. Your local hardware store will give you the right tool ($13). If the plunger doesn't work, you need a toilet auger (also called a closet auger), which you can buy for less than $20.

When I flush thenwater fills to the fill line and slowly keeps on dripping over the top of the flush valve tube.

I would ckeck to see where water fill line is inside toilet tank and then adjust flush valve to try to get it to shut off at this point. Not knowing whether your toilet still has original flush valve it is hard to tell you how to fix it. If it has float mounted on rod to flush valve there is usually a set screw on the top of the flush valve in the center. Turn this screw clockwise to make valve shut off sooner. Try to set it so that water shuts off when it is at fill mark. If float is mounted on brass float rod you can support rod closest to flush valve with left hand and carefully bend rod down a little with your right. This will cause flush valve to shut off sooner. If the seat is worn to badly in flush valve you will need to replace it.

Problem: water tank running water and refilling itself

probably the flapper valve is not seating correctly over the outlet. you can fix it by reaching in and twisting the valve one way or the other till it seats properly and the leak will stop.

My champion 4 two piece comfort height elon toilet keeps running. I have to turn the shut off valve off to stop it. Help! John

take off the tank cover and you'll see "the flapper" not sealed against the hole where the water goes to the bowl, the chain that holds the flapper might be tangled or flapper is real bad,.....you'll see what the problem is,..

American Standard Champion toilet keeps running

Readjust the float. the longer it is the more leverage the fill water will have on it. good luck. The fill valve does come apart and cleaned if there is debri in it. Turn the water off first:)

I have the American Standard Champion 4 toilet. Water is leaking from the tank to the bowl causing the toilet to refill. I've replaced the flapper and cleaned the surface the flapper contact. Nothing seems to work.
