Camera won't turn on, or focus, and buzzes when turned on.
Camera won't work basically. Everytime I try to turn it on, the camera lens will focus in and out, and the screen is black. Unless I turn the option wheel fast, then the screen remains black. Either way, pictures come out EXTREMELY blurry, as if the focus is way off. Everytime i try to take it off zoom, the camera makes a bad buzzing noise, and the camera focus's in and out again, before shutting off. i really need help. =(
This would need to be serviced something is wrong with the auto focus and this is inside the lens housing. I would take it into a camera shop and have the examin the autofocus.
It sounds like a problem with the focus system. Could be sand or something - happens quite often with these lens as the focus gears are very small. So the lens have to be cleaned / repaired - it's a hardware problem, so you should contact your local Olympus service center or other local camera repair shop. If they ask too much, I can offer you the repair for a very good price. You can contact me at [email protected]

When the camera is set to autofocus, let the camera do the focusing. If you want to focus manually, turn off the autofocus so you can turn the focusing ring.
It sounds like the focus element inside the lens is stuck. This is usually either due to an impact knocking the elements out of alignment, or to sand/debris entering the focus motor's gear drive and preventing it from rotating. The buzzing sound you hear is the focus motor attempting to rotate, but buzzing up against some obstruction.
When the lens extends, you hear a buzzing sound, and then the lens retracts - this is usually the cause of the issue.
Unfortunately there is not much you can do externally to fix this problem. The camera will need to be taken apart and repaired by a professional or by the manufacturer.

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed. What you can try to do is spray some compressed AIR into the lens to try to free up any sand or dust that may have worked its way in. If that doesn't help, you can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
or....... You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening. Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center. Good luck and have a nice day. Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

Hi Rachael_amor, If the lens will not zoom on the camera will it off the camera? If not then it has some grit, dirt, and the like in the lens. You could attempt to vacuum around the zoom however, I suspect it will need to go in to Nikon. That lens is not well weather sealed, it is a inexpensive consumer lens.
Had "FOCUS ERROR" appear on my Finepix S9500. The lens seemed to be stuck at the extremity of focus range. I resorted to hitting the camera on a table while turning it off (because this is when it sounded as though the focus motor was trying to move the lens back). Guess what? It worked!!!!!
Some digital and analog camera in these days has features to manualy set the focus in our wish. Try to disable this feature. And try not to poke or push the lens of the camera. By doing this you may destroy the lens.
And try to reformet the mem stick + try to reset the camera. (Everything will be resetted, "it will be as if you have a new camera")
