Maytag PAV2300 Help... I have a Maytag PAV2300, I'm trying to remove the seal nut and bolt that held the circular agitator at the bottom of the tub. Problem: I don't have that spanner wrench(35-2968) or the seal tool (22002898). Is there another way to remove the seal nut and the bolt without these tools, without me damaging anything so that I can replace the triple lip seal ring. that should have an inset, hex-headed screw/bolt. You will have to hold the rotor with one hand and use your other hand to loosen that screw. they use thread lock on that screw, so it will be difficult. but, that's only half the battle. You will have to remove the tub cover, agitator (7/16 agitator nut size), and the spin basket to access the tub seal. the seal has to go on from the inside of the tub assembly. Make sure you don't use anything against the outer lip of where the seal seats inside the tub, or you will have to replace the outer tub because it will still leak. Push the seal all the way down. then before you put everything back together, pour a small amount of water in the tub and see if you see any leaks. anything major will show then, but if there is a small leak, you will not know it till you try to wash with it. You shouldn't have to remove the stator screw or do anything from the bottom side of this unit. You should be able to replace that seal from the top side. good luck.

It sounds like the tub seal is leaking, allowing water to leak out of the tub and damage the drum bearing. Unfortunately you need specialized tools to replace the seal and bearing, so you may have to get a maytag service agent in to look at it. If you're handy with a welder you may be able to make up a tool yourself, it basically consists of a flat hexagon with tabs on the inside to fit the drum nut, and some handles on it. You'll need to remove the front panel and top panel. Then remove the cap around the top of the tub. The agitator is held on by a small screw near the base of the agitator, loosening it will allow you to remove it. Now you can see the tub nut, this is reverse threaded, so it's loosened clockwise. Then you can lift out the drum. Next on the shaft is the top part of the mechanical seal. Remove the grub screw out the side. Now you'll need the same tool you used for the tub nut to undo the seal, rotating in the same direction. Remove the outer tub by undoing the 3 bolts that fix it to the stays, and disconnect the level tube and drain hose. From here you should have printed instructions that come with the new parts to replace the seal and bearing. Please feel free to get back to me if you have any further questions.

Hi.You must first remove the agitator.there mite be a small sized bolt down the side of the agitator that needs to be released before the agitator will come off upwards.Then there will be a big nut at the top that normally requires a special fitted spanner but with big vice grips you may be able to get it undone.(good luck).hope i helped

This is a not a job for the back yard mechanic. There are many things that need to be done carefully. There are 3 letters missing from your model number also... However the procedure is pretty much the same for all models.

NOTE you will need a special tool to remove the stem seal. Unless you have the special tool in hand don't even bother starting the job. Tell any appliance part center you need the tool for removing an Old style Maytag tub nut and stem seal.

1. Remove the front panel
2. Remove the cabinet top / lid by removing the 2 screws in the top front corner of the cabinet. and rotate the top up 90 deg. Be careful of the lid that will swing freely.
3. Disconnect the pump inlet hose from the bottom of the tub.
4. Disconnect the water injector hose from the tub cover.
5. Remove the tub cover
6. Locate the only hex head screw in the side of the agitator and remove it.
7. Lift out the agitator
8. Using the special tool you should have in hand by now.... Remove the wash tub nut and stainless steel washer under the tub nut.
9. NOTE the distance of the inner tub from the outer tub and then lift out the wash tub
10. Next is the stem seal. You first have to remove the allen head lock screw in one of the 4 faces of the tub nut. Then again using that same special tool remove the upper part of stem seal. Be careful when lifting it as you can actually damage the grease seal in the very top of the tub seal upper portion. Once the metal upper part of the tub stem seal assy is removed... there another NOTE of caution...
11. The actual tub seal has a carbon face on the top of it and if you crack the carbon seal it your machine will leak all of the time there is water in the unit.
grab the tub seal as the very base of the seal and gently rotate and lift it off the inner tub sealing surface.
12. Install the new stem seal.... by again gripping it on the bottom only and gently rotate and push it down into place until it seats level.

Reassemble in reverse order of disassembly but make sure you INSTALL the allen lock screw into the stem seal nut face. If you don't the stem seal will come loose and your unit will leak again. Final note is during re-assembly make sure the wash tub is centered.... rotate the tub once you tighten the tub nut and make sure it is not to elliptical if you don't get it right... the machine will gyrate with use in the spin cycle.

you need a 1/4" nut driver and a spanner wrench-start by taking 1/4" screw located toward lower part of agitator,its recessed,take it out,then lift out agitator, then mark where your drum is so you get replaced in that location(counter-weights)then take spanner wrench and loosen nut that holds the wash tub and lift out tub,turn tub over and w/rubber mallet driveout old seal,to aid in new seal install lightly lube with vegetable oil(wessonoil-pam cooking spray) and tap seal into place and re-install in reverse order

remove fabric softner cup from top of agitator and remove 1/2 bolt for inside agitator then you'll need spanner wrench to remove nut that hold spin basket in tub. maybe use some affresh tabs or washer magic to remove build up

If this is a Maytag Performa or Atlantis model all you have to do is remove the center cap on the agitator by pulling on it and locate the agitator bolt underneath. Loosen the bolt, and the agitator should pull straight up.

If this is a Maytag Dependable Care series there will be 1/4 inch screw along the side of the agitator towards the bottom. Remove this screw and the agitator will pull straight up.

Under the agitator is a flat nut with notches in it. this nut requires a spanner wrench that will fit into the notches. You can use a large channel lock plier. rotate the nut counter-clockwise. under the nut will be a seal. remove the nut and the seal and pull up on the inner tub. to replace you'll need to replace the seal. if the nut isn't too chopped up, use this to refasten the tub.

I have had the same problem and found that the teeth on the under side of the agitator had been worn down to nothing... I assume this is from years of over loading (not from me) and so the agitator could not spin any more... i would tighten the bolt that holds th agitator on and it would come loose after a few loads. So my solution was to get a little bit longer bolt and newer plastic washer and tighten it as tight as i could and it seemed to work. Versus buying a new agitator base that would cost about $20-$30 and would have to wait for the part to be ordered. hope this helps
