No sound from my laptop?

If you have no sound, there are several reasons. First, the sound may be turned off. Check the sounds icon in the control panel. Check to see if your laptop speakers are the default playback device and make sure they have not been muted. Check the little picture of a speaker in your system tray. Click on it to see if the volume is too low or the little mute square is not checked.
Rarely is the problem defective speakers--rather it's muted volume or the wrong playback mode being chosen. For instance, if you have a set of earphones and you can't hear sound from the speakers, you probably will be able to hear it through the earphones.

Music wont turn up -- too soft to hear properly

It could be that the maximum volume limit has been switched on too low.
Go to settings then playback and then volume limit, the volume control shows the maximum volume it has been set to. Use the click wheel to select your maximum volume and then press the centre button to set the limit. Then choose done. Hope this helps.

My built in mic is not working properly, when I call somebody hear me but I don't hear him!

If the other person can hear you then YOUR microphone is working fine.
The reason may be that his microphone is faulty (solution below)
Otherwise:
  1. Make sure the volume is turned up on your speakers (and if using external speakers they are plugged in / turned on) . To increase volume go to Control Panel, Sounds & Audio Devices and adjust the slider on "Device Volume" . Also click on "Loudspeaker Volume" and adjust the sliders there as necessary.
  2. Can you hear other sounds (like playing music or videos)? If yes then you need to adjust the audio settings for your calling program (skype or whatever). Launch the appropriate program Click on Tools and ' test audio properties' on the program tool-bar. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  3. Try plugging in headphones and see if you can hear better on them.

Using a microphone with computer

To use any microphone with your computer you will need to enable it in control panel. The following instructions are for Windows XP but are broadly similar for Vista and Win7

Click START, CONTROL PANEL, SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES

Click VOICE

In the Sounds & Audio Devices Properties window locate the SOUND PLAYBACK box and click the VOLUME button. Make sure that there is not a tick (check-mark) in the MUTE box against microphone in the list of devices and that the volume slider is at the top of the scale.

Also make sure that the MUTE ALL box isn't checked before closing the window.

Now click the VOLUME button in the SOUND RECORDING BOX. Here you need to SELECT microphone as an input source for recording (as opposed to un-checking mute in the playback controls).

NOTE if microphone is not listed in the 2 sets of volume controls click OPTIONS, PROPERTIES on the tool-bar and place a check against microphone in the list entitled 'show the following volume controls' and then click OK.

That should be it.

My microphone records the sounds on my computer and plays them directly back through the speakers. How can I eliminate the microphone playback and have someone else hear me on something such as skype?

double click on the volume on the taskbar (System Tray - Next to clock) and Controls for Playback will open. If you can't see Microphone Volume here, click Options- Properties - and in Playback Volume list - Select Microphone by ticking against it and press OK. You will see the Microphone Volume on screen. Just tick inside the mute box of Microphone. Now the audio from Microphone will not play but you can still record it.

I cant get my built in mic to work for my acer travelmate 2313LCi..?

I'm assuming your speakers work and you're running Windows XP. Please correct me if otherwise.

There are two settings for the microphone in Windows XP. One is for the volume of the mic you hear through the speakers. The other is for the recording volume of the microphone (and the volume others here when you speak to them through Skype or another program).

First check the recording volume:
Volume Manager (double click on speaker icon on your taskbar) -> Options -> Properties -> Recording -> OK -> Make sure the Microphone slider is at least halfway turned up and make sure the Microphone is selected

Next check the playback volume:
Volume Manager -> Options -> Properties -> Playback -> OK -> Make sure the Microphone isn't muted and adjust the volume according to your preferences

No audio during playback

On my handycam you have to hit the Volume + button while playing back. Everytime you playback it starts volume at zero and you have to volume up to hear anytime you playback.
