Onkyo 805 sub hook up problem

I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver and can not get any sound from my subwoofer. Tried Audessy auto speaker set up and sub was not detected. Tried all possible connections and sub does not deliver sound. Blue light is on however. Sub worked perfectly fine a few days ago with Pioneer receiver. Any suggestions on settings, work arounds, solution, etc?

Same problem with the Onkyo 805 although I can get the Sub to work with SOME Dish Network 5.1 Surround Sound Channels but not all and not consistently. And the 805 does NOT allow 1080p passthru with the Receiver OFF, although the 875 does. HELP! I have tried every menu and submenu setting.

I have the same problem whenever I use my multi-channel hookup. I've tried every possible menu and submenu, but get no sound. Called onkyo twice and spent 2 hours with tech support to no avail. The person in the earlier blog who mentioned that onkyo told him/her there was another place to connect the subwoofer failed to tell the rest of us where to. I'm truly frustrated.

It was working fine and then something got switched differently, I think. Blue light comes on but no sound or pink sound in the speaker level set up menu. The Klipsch sub was working great. Originally I had the sub rca jack plugged into the wrong sub connection at the back of the TX-SR705. The purple pre out for sub fixed that. This is a different problem and I feel there is a switch or setting that got changed inadvertently. Talked to HH Greg and will take both there tomorrow. If something useful I can report back, I will.

I have the same problem. There is nothing coming out of the sub out jack. I have double checked the back panel to make sure I am using the correct subwoofer jack. I have swapped subwoofers and cables. It does not seem to send any info out of the multichanel pre outs. Sound does come out of the tape out jacks. Disappointing!

I made the same mistake when i hooked my REL sub up to the back of the 805.

The problem is there are 2 connectors on the back of the amp that are labeled as sub out. Look very closely, you will see that there are 2 grouped RCA outs. The RCA out group you are looking for differentiated by groups of "little white dots" all the way to the far right on the back of the amp. Hope this helps.

Talked to tech support at Onkyo and there seems to be two (2) places you can hook your sub up to. I placed mine in the wrong slot. So please double check where you placed the sub connection.

I had the same problem which was solved as follows: there are two subwoofer outputs on the back of the TX-SR805 receiver; when looking at the back of the receiver, try the one on the right (both are labelled subwoofer). Audessy auto speaker setup then recognized the subwoofer.

Looking at the back of the sr805, there is a second subwoofer output, this one is the preout. 4 rca jacks to the right of the non-preout subwooker. Moved it, and all works now.

How can I hook up BIC F12 subwoofer to Onkyo TX-DS838 receiver? Will the receiver power the subwoofer and other speakers?

Get a RCA cable and connect from your amp where it said Sub Woofer in the Pre Out box in the back of the amplifier top left hand side and take it to the "Sub In" located in the back of your Sub woofer bottom right hand (White round connector).
Good Luck!

How to hook up my subwoofer

It sounds like you're doing everything right. Did you define the sub to the Onkyo (Subwoofer = Yes, page 22)?

Let's prove the sub works. Set its volume about half-way, cutoff= 170Hz. Temporarily connect an RCA cable from its Line Input to one of the Tape Out connectors on the Onkyo and play some FM through it. If it's alive you'll hear the low end of the music.

Don't buy into the hype that there are different pedigrees of RCA (or speaker) cables that will make an audible difference. Save your money.

Powered Or Unpowered Subwoofers For Onkyo TX-8511

Greg- Powered subs are better than non-powered subs (also known as passive subs), anyway I see the TX-8511 has no sub pre-out on the back panel, so you need to decide what sub you will use and run from the receivers left and right speakers output into a subwoofers speaker in from speakers then back out to speakers, look at the back of a subwoofer and you will see like 4 sets of speaker hookups 2 in and 2 out, what this does is takes the low end or bass and drops the signal to the subwoofer then takes the mids and highs out to your left and right speakers, unless your regular left and right stereo speakers have large woofers a sub is the way to go.

Subwoofer volume and sound

i had the same problem when i tried to adjust speaker output levels, distance and equalizer manually without using audessy setup..so i reset everything to factory setting (0s)..and then ran
audessy setup..reduce volume on your subwoofer to slightly above minimum(behind the subwoofer) before running the setup..once audessy setup is completed successfully..i started changing setup
manually..changed speaker config for front speaker to small (it is set as large by audessy setup), this should automatically adjust center and other speaker configuration (if not make sure to set them to small as well), then set the cross over frequency to 120..increase the volume on your subwoofer and now you should hear it fire..if this does not help..try playing some rock music with all channel streo mode..if your subwoofer does not fire even for this..then take the system back for exchange..
