I just solved it!!!! Open the door, unplug, let the print cartridge move all the way to the left. Check where the cartridges usually sit on the right side, I found a BIG GLOB of sticky ink that had been leaking probably for years. Using a q-tip with a little bit of alcohol, remove and clean the area. SOLVED !!!!!!!

Improper placement or installation of the product's print cartridges can cause the product to indicate a carriage stall error condition. Ensure correct installation of the print cartridges by following the instructions below.
Make sure the HP all-in-one is on.
WARNING:
If the HP all-in-one is off when the print-carriage access door is lifted to access the print cartridges, the HP all-in-one will not release the cartridges for changing. Open the print-carriage access door by lifting from the front center of the device, until the door locks into place.
NOTE:
The print carriage is on the far right side of the HP all-in-one.
When the print carriage is idle and silent, press down on the end of each cartridge to snap it out of the carriage.
NOTE:
If replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. If replacing the black or photo cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right.

If removing the black print cartridge to install the photo or gray photo print cartridge, store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector.
Slide the proper print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Push the print cartridge forward until it clicks into place.

Noticed that the cartridge wasn't going all the way to the right - to the "ready" position when the printer is on. It seems it has to be all the way right or you get the "carriage jam" message. I opened the door and pushed it about a quarter inch to the right and I could hear it lock into place. There's a little catch mechanism on the left of the cartridge when it's correctly locked into place. I lubed it with some silicon wax and now the carriage can position itself all the way to the right - it now locks itself in correctly. You can manually push it to the right (when the power is on) to temporarily cause the error to go away, but some lubrication on the catch mechanism seemed to fix it.
Did what Jazz did. Worked like a charm. Thanks.
This helped me: (1) As Jazz said, opened the lid, unplugged without turning off, slid ink cartdiges to left to find a huge glob of congealed ink underneath the black cartridge. Cleaned with small spoon and Q-tips. (2) like Cavey said, I lubed latch to the left of the in cartidges (when they are in home position) with WD-40.
Must have leaked more ink that I ever used for printing!
Still get a few "Door not closed.." messages but the I have the infamous broken hinge issue and have to manually force the door closed.

My 6210 has only worked properly for the first month
After that, it has a carriage jam after every page printed. I manually move the carriage to its start position, print one page (if I'm lucky) and then of course, another carriage jam....I have had nothing but problems with it, however, I didn't get the extended warranty, and of course it was after 30 days of purchase so now I have to just deal with it. It sucks and it is a big pain in the u know what.
Funny how nothing is listed for frequent carriage jams that are not due to cables, paper jams, poor installation...None of these were fixes for my printer...I am very dissapointed with it. Truth be told, I don't think HP wants to take responsibility for there product and just simply make it as though something you or I are doing that is not correct. This is not the case, the printer is just JUNK!
I have had the same problem for several months. I tried all the various solutions including new cartridges. Holding down "# and 3 keys" worked for about 2 sheets and then the problem returned.
i just had a refurbished all-in-one shipped to me to replace my former 6210 that functioned perfectly for 18 months then had the irreparable carriage jam. i can't believe this, but after my 5th printing session, the "new" refurbished printer I was sent thru my extended warrantor has the SAME CARRIAGE JAM!! this is completely frustrating. it's about to go out the window along with any of my future HP business. what a pos...
please, somebody give me a different diy options. could it be a software issue on the printer?
I too have a HP 6210 and a few minutes ago stopped myself from totally destroying it. I bought this printer brand new and after about 2 months started getting the carriage jam messages. I've done everything and can see no reason why the carriage stops working. My carriage ends up to the right. I push it back to the left. Sometimes it works, sometime not. So now if I'm lucky, right when I click print, instead of clearing the carriage jam I just push the OK button until the print starts and sometimes I'm lucky with that. I'm tempted to beat this printer with a bat and send the pieces back to HP. Something has to be done.
same thing. sometimes turning off and on works for a print or two. VERY FRUSTRATING.
our computer is saying open door carrige jam and then press enter
i have carriage jam and the printer is 2years old
after changing the cartridge i got a message" CARRAGE JAM " I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING POSSIBLE but it does not work. I have had the printer 1 1/2 years and have gotten rotten service from it all along
This printer is ridiculous! I am highly upset about this and have tried to fix this "carriage jam" several times. I am not sure what to do at this point.Sometimes it works and other time it doesnt this printer has me on a roller coaster of emotions. hp did a crappy job on this printer and I hope in the future they will offer better, more reliable printers!
I have had the same problem many times and my printer is but 2 years old too. Also the software fails continuously requiring complete uninstalls and reinstalls.
My HP Photosmart 2710 all-in-one has the same problem - carriage jam -unfound after many searches. Can you help?

My story exactly...has worked perfectly for years...a few hours ago stopped with carriage jam error...checked forpaper/trash... removed/replaced cartridges...slid carriage gently along rail to right side stating position. No luck...same error message.
Manual no help... any one have a solution/suggestion... is it time for service or replacement?
I have exactly the same problem with my HP 6210xi printer. It's been working just perfectly for at least 5 years. All of a sudden last night, I kept receiving a carriage jam message and consulted the book with no real help at all. There is no paper jam but the carriage doesn't go back and forth smoothly but hesitates. I would love to have a real solution to this problem.
