My
Mitsumi DW 7801 TE DVD-RW quit burning dvd-r or -rw after I had to reinstall Windows. When I ran the Belarc Advisor it shows both of my drives to be cd-rom drives. I get an "Insert blank disk..." message when I insert a dvd disk and attempt to burn it or even read it to see what is on it. I have used Maxell DVD-R 4.7gb, up to 16x, 2 Hrs in SP mode and Memorex DVD-RW disk. I have windows XP on a Dell Pent 4, 638 RAM.Any suggestions or is it time to replace the drive? or the computer?
Ok, so this problem started occuring after you reinstalled windows?
What program are you using ?
Try using a different program to open it.
Respond with more details on 'how old it is' and 'what program you use to burn', please
Hi,
Did you install the right drivers for the drive? It happened to me in the past where my DVD burner would only burns regular CDR's.
I am guessing that the discs you have used before the reinstall, worked...right?
Do you know if the driver before you are using now is the same one as the one you were using beofre the reinstall?
I am glad it worked out in the end =)
Happy burning!

Sorry for not replying sooner, my isp had to come replace my cable lines. I just came back up and running today. I had to go to storage to find the disk for the Mitsumi and will try installing the drivers again and let you know.
And the disk did work before, infact we bought a combo vcr/dvd burner specifically that would use the disk that the computer produced. I will get back after dinner to let you know. Thanks for the response.

Final:
The driver was missing all together. When I uploaded the driver the drive could see dvd's to burn again. I ran a speed test and all was wonderful. I didn't think the drive would work at all if the drivers were not present, but it would read cd's before, so it was really confusing me.
Thank you all for the information. For anyone else having a similar problem, always reinstall or update the drivers to your component when you are having a problem, it may be the simple and cheapest fix ya need.
Again... thank you!
