My delle173fpc powers up then goes dark if i swittch it off then back on it will come on for a few seconds then go dark again

make sure the 'VGA' lead is plugged in properly. if still dark turn up the brightness on the monitor. if still dark after that, go onto the computer settings and turn up the brightness on the display settings.

The power supply caps need replace on power supply, or replace power supply.

This is your back light on your lcd display, To prove that have a flash light handy when it goes dark point the flash light at the screen and you should see the screen and that would mean right there you got a back light going out or the inverter that powers it is going bad. Etherway if this is not your area of work you need to tech it to a computer tech local to have it repaired.

Replace your lamp if you had it more the 3 years.

You need to verify if it's the monitor or computer--if possible, change out the monitor with a known-good one and see if the problem still exists. If it does, then it's a problem with the video card or driver software--if it doesn't and the monitor is an LCD display, then you probably have a failing power supply or display. In an LCD monitor, there are thin, bright fluorescent tubes which give back lighting to your image. A classic symptom of the screen going dark(with the image still visible using a bright flashlight), is the power supply that feeds the tubes or the tubes themselves. If the display is not under warranty, keep "new monitor" in the back of your mind because the cost of getting the unit fixed(if it can be done) rivals the price of a new one.--Hope I was of assistance--Rick

Check the power options to verify that the screen is not powered down after to short a time. It is in the control panel under power options or in a Dell management utility

you mean few second the monitor goes in black. then its come. if it happen, it is ok

may be your power saving option have small time .
check in control panel power option check power shemes.set it to 20 minutes.

You need to get this tv service asap.i beleive that the problem is in the inverter board or yb board.

Sounds like either there is a bad connection from the computer to the monitor, or the monitor has a faulty power regulator, causing the monitor to overheat prematurely, and shut off.
