The GE profile Spacemaker that we have started acting up lately. While still in use its erratic. The microwave does work but only when the vent is turned on with the button on the spacemaker. If it is turned on with out the vent it freezes. I can restart the spacemaker only by unplugging and replugging. Any suggestions how I can fix this. I would like to have the spacemaker work like before without the vent turned on. Dont like the Noise it makes. :) Thanks in advance.

My parents have had a couple of the spacemaker microwaves mounted over the range with the built-in vent. Over time, the seal on the control board gets a crack in it and the steam from cooking below it gets up into the control board and does it in.
Even if yours isn't mounted over the range, it sounds like a main control board failure.
You are right the control panel is very expensive, you can try the filter to see if you can get it working, but I must admit a new microwave oven sounds appealing.
Sadly, GE does not make individual parts available for these controllers, so they cannot be repaired.
You have to replace the control panel sub-assembly (part number WB07X10733 in your case) and the best price I've found on that is $370.32 here (compared to $483.25 direct from GE).
In my opinion, this does not do much to inspire brand loyalty...
Or you may be able to find a whole oven on eBay for about that or less.
Sorry to bear bad news. Good luck.

I had GE look at the problem today (my microwave is less than a year old and under warranty). He replaced the cam louver and that seems to have fixed the problem. This is a small motor accessible by removing three screws and the active vent door. The whole visit was less than 15 minutes.<!-- from fixya rte -->
All of a sudden last nigh it just started acting weird the panel works and the clock etc works as well as all the cooking setting. but it doesn't light up inside and when I close the door to my GE Profile Eterna Space maker it starts huiming like its cooking something
Hello there: what this is trying to tell you is that your control panel is starting to go out due to a failure in the controle assembly yes it is feasable to replacethe panel youwill just have to contact the manufacture of the microwave and get a replacement panel/ controle board ok I hope that this is very helpful for you Best regards Michael
Your microwave turning on by itself is a "self preservation feature" of the GE Profile Advantium and maybe some other models. Read the manual, When your over the range oven gets warm enough, for whatever reason the venting fan comes on until a satisfactory oven temperature is reached. You are not permitted to shut the vent fan off. Also it seems a temperature near room temp must be achieved before it shuts the fan motor off, it is very annoying. We had to return our Advantium because of fan noise. I configured the ovens vent fan to the recirculate direction because we do not have a vent duct that exits the house over our range. When the vent fan acting as the ovens cooling fan automatically turned on we would have to leave the house to hear each other talk. Too bad we really liked the oven other than that major problem. Your vent flap could be taped or it could be faulty installation not allowing the vent to open. If you take the front vent cover off, you should be able to reach in above the fan unit and gently push the vent flap up, it should move freely with no binding. If it doesn't it is taped or blocked. If it is taped, gently putting upward pressure on the flap might release the tape. If that doesn't work the vent installation is blocking the flap. You might have to remove the unit from the wall (two people to do this) or disassemble the vent duct above the microwave and rework the interface for clearance.
