IP Phone available for IP office?

I have Avaya IP office and need to connect two remote IP phones at a location at which there are no computers. Does anyone make an IP phone that will connect with my phone system without having to be on a computer network that is connected to my office network?

  • TexasTom Jan 04, 2008

I knew I had not described my situation well. I know there needs to be a computer at the remote location - provides the access to the network. What I don't want to do is make the remote computer part of my office network. (We don't want to get into the business of providing network support to the remote location) I think a phone with it's own vpn client is what we need?

If your IP Office is Rel 4.2 or higher, You can purchase a license that will allow you to load a vpn script into the phone. Once you set up your VPN router at corporate, the phone gets plugged into any open internet connection and syncs up with the VPN router and makes a tunnel which then will connect with the phone system giving you a remote IP phone extension of that system.

For the PC, just load client software on it, and it works the same.

Since the tunnel is directly from the device (phone or PC), your home network will not be apart of the office network.

You do not need a computer at your remote site. What you need is to create a VPN using your corp firewall to a firewall at the remote location. You can then plug the phone into the firewall at the remote location.

Hi TexasTom,

I'm not quite clear on your problem. But I think what your describing would be difficult to archive. That's if I understand you correctly!

Perhaps what you might want to consider is this sort of device. It allows to normal (PSTN) telephones to be used as either SIP (VoIP) or as normal PSTN telephones. It does not require a PC once it's been set-up.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Spare head 2.

Your internet connection at home or the office needs to be faster.
Talk to your ISP or have the phone admin run some traces to see where the blockage is.

Try to login manually from the avaya not from the computer. it will log you in. but you might also need to check with your CCO (call center operation desk) and which software you are using to log in and check if you have an outside access, if its still not working submit a trouble ticket at your company's website. reinstalltion the application will not work if the access is not there. avaya are very safe phones and i am also using the avaya 4620sw ip phone. it happens sometimes when you login using the softphone but try to login using the hard phone. it should log you in, but will it solve the purpose. you need to check. All the best.

Using AVAYA 4610SW IP phone

Answer to the second problem :-

1. The changes in the ring tone has to be made by accessing the Avaya server where the phones are registered.
2. Log in to the avaya server...... enter change station <station number> on the command prompt
3. In the personalized ring pattern field, you can select one out of the 8 available options by typing any digit between from 1 to 8.

4. The ring pattern of that particular station will change accordingly.

5. Keep the personalized ring pattern of all the stations different by assigning different digits against this value
