Computers won't recognize my archos5 when i plug them into the usb port. the archos recognizes it, but the pc doesn't. I've tried on a few different pc's, so I know it's the archos.

Try using different usb ports on your computer. If it doesn't work then try hooking up your iphone to another computer. If it still isn't being recognized then try a different IPHONE USB cable.

Also try restoring your iphone to factory defaults if necessary. This is a last resort. If your iphone still won't get recognized by the computer then it could be the connection on the Iphone is defective and in that case replacing the phone is the only option.

If it recognized it a couple of days ago, I'd recommend doing a system restore back to when it was working.

1. Try a different USB port. If other ports recognize it, then the original port is fried. 2. Try a different computer. If the other computer does not recognize it, then your flash drive is damaged.

The computer should be able to recognize it because your digital media player is compatible with the three major operating systems: Windows, Mac and Linux. If your computer is still not recognizing it, try connecting your device to a desktop PC. If the desktop PC recognizes your device, then the problem is coming from the USB ports on your laptop. They may not have the amount of power needed for the device to connect to your laptop. If the PC desktop doesn't recognize the device, then the problem is that one of the drivers in the Archos is defective (not working anymore). Once that happens, the only way the device can work again is if the defective driver gets replaced. Try all the different USB Ports on your computer, sometimes certain ports can 'glitch' and not recognize the device that you've plugged in. If you've tried plugging it in all the ports and your computer still hasn't recognized the camera, re-install the driver software for the Olympus SP800UZ.

I recommend trying your archos on a different computer just to see if it is a pc or archos problem. Your pc should come right up and ask if you want to charge or use the usb port or both. Try another computer.

try using a high speed usb port

Ijust bought a archos 5 250gb , conected via usb and drag some music from pc to archos . A few hours late the archos stopped, the pc don´t recognize the archos .
I pressed the on/off and vol together and formated the aarchos .
now had been disaster , the display just appeared the ARCOS Entertainement you way . the pc don´t regognizer the ARCHOS, NOTHING APPEARED .

I fixed my son's 605 4 GB had Recovery code (104) on it. This might work for other error codes too. These are the steps i followed 
* Use the computer for this process that you always used for this archos Archos should be plugged in toPc before starting the process.
* Download the firware Upgrade 2.1
* Plug the Archos to Pc 
* When the white option screen comes up, just pick the format disk
* Wait until all done do not pick any option on archos after format is done Pc should recognize your archos in 5 seconds 
* Put the firmware in root section of the archos not in any folder.
* Safely remove the usb for Archos from your pc first and then unplug the cable.
* Do not pick any option on the Archos screen
* Just turn it off from the power button by holding it until it turns off
* Wait about 5 minutes and plug it back to pc 
* it will come up with white screen again but this time it will start Update you will see the progress bar moving, wait until it is all done, it will shut off. Turn it back on and  your archos will be back to normal
