How is it that you do not have safari already installed?
The download you are trying to use is probably looking for an existing version, which it will then proceed to upgrade. It is probably giving the error message because it is finding nothing that qualifies as "at least 10.5."

Safari is normally installed along with the Operating System. So, if you have the Snow Leopard install disc, and it is for this computer and not another computer (the discs are specific to the computer), you should be able to put the disc in, find the software on the OS install disc and execute the install.

How do I upgrade to 10.5 or .6?

Firstly you will need to buy a copy of 10.6. This is available from Apple (see link below) or you could get a copy from eBay.

I have Mac desktop with Safari browser. Just it quit working on me and I cannot open. I am now using my laptop. Please help.

re-download from iTunes apple site. and reinstall, this happens b/c of some HTML5 issues and the switches to Lion over Snow Leopard made Safari a little buggy. there's also a different version of iTunes for Lion only. trust me its worth the upgrade for $30.

I have dowloaded safari and when i click on the icon it will not open

There are many versions of Safari. One for Windows and one for Mac. On the Mac there is a Tiger version, Leopard version and Snow Leopard version. You must get the correct version. Uninstall the version you have installed and then go download the version you need. http://www.apple.com/safari/ You either have the wrong version or the download was corrupt. After you install the correct version, restart your PC or Mac. It should work fine after the restart.

Mac upgrade means Xerox printer won't print!

There are apparently incompatibilities between some Xerox drivers and the security-improved Snow Leopard. It seems that many pieces of software (and drivers) relied on not-so-clean techniques to cut corners while operating. These techniques are no longer allowed by Snow Leopard (the same problem afflicts XP SP3, Vista and Seven).

This article lists several problems, explanation and (perhaps) fixes:

http://www.ucalgary.ca/it/news/4366

Meanwhile, Apple is working to some workarounds too (there is an update linked in the article which may be of interest to you).

When I try to use my safari browser with my mac os10.6.1 I receive the following mwssagethat safar i4.03 will not work with my mac os.

If you updated from Leopard to Snow Leopard you should note that safari for Snow Leopard is different from that for Leopard. Do a clean instal of Snow Leopard and that should sort the problem out. Hope this helps

I can't have safari

Its simple, just download it off the apple website,
http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
since you on leopard "1.5.2" you may need to run a system update because you should have been updated to 1.5.7 by now
so if safari still does not work that is why, you need to run a system update.
Here is a little guide on how to do that http://www.switchtoamac.com/guides/mac-os-x/software-update/manually-run-software-update-on-mac-os-x-leopard.html
One thing though if your new to mac's the apple menu is the apple icon in the top right corner :D
