The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

Dear God, It was like a comedy. I got on the whale boat, after having the Canon ixus 60 for 4 years. I've never had any error messages. The whales came 10 feet from the boat and twice raised their head, and no camera, just the beeping and the error message: lens error; restart camera. How do you restart the ixus 60 Canon digital camera, anyone? Please help!! Thanks [email protected], Maui, Hawaii. Aloha!! & Mahalo.

My wife dropped our Canon A470 camera on a concrete surface. The camera will turn on but it displays a lense error message asking to restart camera.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Lens problem

sir this problem is most common one .but it needs to be done by
sophisticated tools and well trained technicians.
here whole lens system has been damaged.
if lens(inner glass) is broken then it must be sent to authorised service centre.

Help please

I'm assuming you have a lens error which is giving you the restart message.
It is kind of misleading, but to restart the camera means to power cycle the camera or remove and reinsert the battery.
If you do have a lens error, if restarting the camera doesn't work, you'll need to get the lens fixed if to remove the error.
