Just been on Philips Forum and there is a possible very simple solution. Press and hold the MENU button ON THE TV for about 20 secs. This should factory reset TV and allow storage/retrieval of channels to the '8k' store. See this page for more detail:http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1366-26pfl5522d-05. Now I have to ring my Dad who has exactly this problem!
1) While pressing & holding down the TV POWER button, press CHANNEL UP or CHANNEL DOWN repeatedly until your TV is turned on or off.
2) Release the TV POWER button when your TV is turned on or off.
*Each press of the channel button sends a manufacturer code (1-45) to your TV, one after the other.
Note: You may have to do this every time you change or remove the battery, as the remote will reset itself to the default code.
From GUEST: I found this solution in the manual and will perform this task again to see if I can get the tv will be re-recognized again. Give this a try, too.
Remote will not turn on or shut off the TV.
• You must program the converter box remote in order to control your TV power button.
• To program the remote control:
Determine if the TV is a model that can be controlled by the remote control. See "Controllable TV brands" on page 17 in the manual.
Turn on the TV.
While you press and hold TV POWER on the remote control, press CH ^ or CH v one or more times until the TV turns off. Each time you press one of these buttons, the remote control sends a manufacturer code (between 1 and 45) to the TV.
it is due to loose contact near
1 anrena or cable socket.
2 cable wire loose.
3 loose contact near tuner.
4 tuner b+ line or agc line loose.
5 horihontal hold tunning is not proper.or control loose.
hope this will help.
good luck.
