My acer Extensa 5620Z DVD/CD ROM drive is detected as USB mass storage that provides internet(Modem). When I remove the internet modem, the CD ROM is not listed in My computer. When I put CD or DVD in it only rotates and nothing desplayed. How can I solve this, When checked in Device properties I found this, Device type is DVD/CD-ROM Drives; Manufacturer is Standard CD-ROM drives; Location on USB mass storage Device.     well, 1 or 2 things first off sounds like your cdrw is shot but I wouldn't put it passt anything now a days best way to solve this is unistalling your cdrw drive from laptop look on the bottom of the laptop usally it is install with one screw unistall it and hardware and reinstalling it go to acer.com and reinstalling your cdrw if this doesn't work mite need a new cdrw drive sorry for bad news lala linda

That is a Vista problem with ACER. Delete the reference in device manager and restart and let the comp reco0gnize and reinstall ...just follow the screen instructions.

There is a registry setting that needs deleting but only if this doesn't work.

I have an acer extensa 5620z and netgear dg834v5 modem/router. I can connect via ethernet, but even though i have set the router without security, the laptop detects the wireless network, but won't...
This is worked for me on Vista:
1. Goto Network and Sharing Center.
2. Click on your Wireless Connection "View Status".
3. Click on Propertes.
4. Uncheck the option that says "Internet Protocol Version 6"

When I did this, my wireless began working again.

If you place your restore disc in the DVD/CD Rom drive and boot from it, choose format drive when given the choice. That will remove all files and place the system on that was set when you bough it.

Hi there.

All you should need to do, is download and install the Chipset drivers for your laptop. You can download them from here:
http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=17&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&ctx1g.c2att92=122&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=2980211862

Just select your make and model of laptop, then just underneath that, select your version of XP. Then it will list the drivers underneath. The Chipset drivers should be about second from bottom, click the orange icon to the right, and then click Run. Reboot your system, and now check to see if it's all sorted.
