American standard thru-wall heater air conditioner (PTEC1501GAA) will not heat. When wall mounted thermostat is turned up for heat, the fan turns on but no heat comes out. I opened it up and checked the fuse which was okay. I suspect the unit is of mid-1960s vintage. I tried to locate a manual on the American Standard website but it was no help and mostly focuses on plumbing products. Ron

Sounds as if the heater coil itself is burnt out. These coils may be repaired if you can get an universial coil repair kit and rewire the heater coil yourself. Since the age of the unit is in question I don't know if it is possible to get a kit for repairs but you never know. I would check an a/c supply house for this kit. Good Luck on your repairs

Error code 22 on thermostat

I see so many problems with these. make sure your thermostat is set to heat. if its hard wired simply turning it to the degrees it shows a bit past, should turn it on.If not check the heat source for any blinking lights which means a malfunction on the heaters it self... If you checked fuse box sometimes to flick the switch to off and back on does the trick to reset it.

Upgrade Baystat 239 to a Honeywell RTH7600D controller

For Trane sytems, B is your "Common" wire. O is your reversing valve relay, G is your fan, Y is your compressor contactor, R is Hot, Brown will not be used on your electronic tstat. X2 is your backup electric heaters. Without knowing what terminals are on your new tstat, I cannot offer more information than this. The installation manual may indicate what each terminal is controlling. I strongly suggest to write down ALL of the terminals and colors from your old t-stat and be sure to turn off the power to your air handler. Put the fan switch on your tstat to ON before turning off the power. Make sure the fan is running. Then turn the power off to your Air Handler. If your fan stops running, you have turned the power off to your tstat and are ready to start replacing it with your new tstat. I hope you find this helpful. Good Luck!!!

I have a central air and heat heat uses gas so when the heat is on should the main fan be turning

Typical systems are designed with a thermostatic "fan limit switch" which protrudes into the heater (house air portion of the passages). The "fan limit switch" is mounted to, and protrudes into the duct within the burner section of the heater, near the heated metal.

This switch triggers the circulating fan to turn on only after the sensor (thus air) within the duct has reached well above ambient temperature. This design prevents the fan from coming on sooner and the system blowing cold air, which people don't like.

Depending on system design, installation and current operating conditions, the time delay from main burners on to fan on can be up to a couple of minutes.

This same limit switch, if the temperature goes high enough, will also turn the gas valve off; a fire safety function.

Heating not working like it should

The fan for the A/C should blow harder than in heat. The fan should be on high for cool and low for heat. You can change the heat setting for medium but I would not recommend it because it may make heat coming out feel less.
