Huge problem with an old Garage door opener. And no, I can't just ''go buy a new one''. So, here's the deal. The light quit coming on when the door was opened, so I took most of the circuitry apart. The huge mistake I made was I made great diagrams of everything but where the 3 wires that control the thing hook up to the receiving unit and to the push button in the garage. I have a really good diagram made of it if that would help, and it's an old Genie model 209. Where the receiving unit hooks up, which has 3 wires, white, black, and red, there are 3 wires from the inside of the unit, grey, pink, and purple, plus, on 2 of these connections, the push button switch connects. In other words, there is a connection block with 3 connectors: the 3 wires from inside the unit itself connect [grey, pink, purple], and also, the receiving unit connects to all 3 terminals, plus the push button connects to 2 of them. How I forgot to write this down I'll never know ! But surely, surely, someone out there has an old Genie, or knows enough about them to help me figure this out.

Verify that the case is firmly seated. If the plastic top is not seat correctly to the board, the mobo power button is not close enough to make contact with the button on the snap off panel, where the external plastic power button is.

SOURCE: Genie Compact 3-Button Remote control will only open 1 door/not 2

On some of the remotes you will find a toggle switch to change frequencies, this might help. Note all new openers are operating on a different frequency than slightly older ones due to military interference. Even though both might be intellicode they might not work together on the same remote. Sometimes some openers are harder to program than others. So lets try to program the harder one. You need to find and press the learn button on the motor head. Then press the button on the remote once. The led light by the learn button should not flash. If so try it over. The light should either stay lit or go out after the first press. If it does press it again and then a third time. If it ever flashes during the program process try again. The third or fourth time the motor should operate. If not you either have a bad remote or more than likely a bed logic board. Thanks BB

My garage door transmitter is mot working, if I buy a new one, how to set the code?

Wow, Ken. Tons more information is needed to fully answer your question. The make, AGE, model information, for instance.
However, you will be one of a couple of methods.

When you buy the replacement remote, consider buying it from a garage door place, they often can take the old remote and make the new one work.

Way older openers use a bank of switches.
Newer units use electronic handshaking. This is where you push an "invite" button on the unit and then press buttons on the remoteS, to get them to handshake. Directions can sometimes be found on the opener unit.
While you are up there, get the make, model and serial # so that you can get the right remote the first time.

The nice thing about the electronic units is they are SAFER and tons more secure. After the handshake, each time the remote is used, the access code is "rolled" automatically. Digital access prevention is a huge step forward.

My Craftman Garage Door Opener is approx. 7 yrs old. Remotes work fine. Keypad acknowledges receiving code, but then will not open door. Installed new bsttery.

If your keypad is the same age as your door and worked before it has probably just quit. If it is new and you have programmed it and it still doesn't work it may be the wrong one for your model opener.

Blowing out light bulbs

There are rough service bulbs you can buy at hardware stores. You can also try unplugging the unit and using a small screwdriver pull out on the center contact in the light bulb socket.

Program garage door opener in 2005 rx 330

There are 3 programmable Homelink buttons you can use for different remotes. Just to the right of the buttons there is an indicator light.

Decide which button you want to program. Point the none battery end of your remote 1"-3" away from the Homelink panel and press both the remote and desired Homelink button down and hold them down at the same time. After about 20 seconds, the Homelink indicator light will change from a slow flashing to a rapid flashing. You can then release both buttons,
If the garage door responds to the Homelink, your done! If not, your garage door uses a rolling codes transmitter and must be trained.
Find the training button on your garage door opener's transmitter (usually mounted on the ceiling). Press the training button and within 30 seconds press and release the programmed Homelink button twice. If the garage door opener operates, you're done! If not, press and release the Homelink button a third time and the garage door should respond. If it still does not, you may have a very old garage door opener with a none digital transmitter (like I did). In that case, you either need to buy a new opener or try to replace the transmitter with a modern digital unit (as I did). Advantage: cheaper than a whole new garage door opener.
Disadvantage: The newer openers incorporate safety features that my old opener does not have.

Craftsman 1\2 hp clicks, motor wurrs for 1 sec', but doesn't open

You have a stripped gear on the opener. Take off the cover on the motor. The bottom of the cover will be filled with white shavings. You can repair this with a "liftmaster gear and sprocket assembly".

Do I need to replace everything, if I buy a new garage door open.

My 15 year old system broke down due to a worn screw drive. While parts like this can be replaced, it takes a bit of guts to work inside the motor, and the circuit board. I chose to buy a new unit. New units come with all the parts ... so you don't really save much, Depending on how old the system is, the old accessories may or may not work. Even though my old 1/2 H.P. motor was a chain drive, when I bought a new screw drive the mounting parts on the ceiling and on the wall above the door were compatable. So while you get the new parts in the box, you can use the old parts if it saves you time. I was not able to save the electic eye components as the number of wire leads was slightly different in the new model. It took me and my son about 2 hours to get the old one down and the new on up. Hope that helps. (by the way, the new chain drive is quicker and quieter)
