Refrigerator seems to just turn off for a day or so every two or three weeks and all the freezer items melt. Kicks back on after some time and works fine for another 2-3 weeks then repeats. Have unplugged and plugged back in multiple times but still have the problem. What could be causing this?

Most Refrigerators have a defrost timer which cycles every couple of weeks, typically for several hours, in order to let any residual ice melt from the cooling system. If yours cycles long enough for the freezer items to melt, it should be replaced.

Why does The freezer side stays cold but the refrigerator side gets warm

Your problem is more than likely a defrost issue. There is ice building up in the freezer coils and when it gets blocked with ice the cold air cant blow into the fresh food section. When you shut it off the ice melts and it gets cold again for a few days. remove the freezer back panel and check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. if they check OK then check the defrost timer. It is best to replace all three components at the same time. This way you will be starting out with new components rather than one failing then the other.

GE Refrigerator Freezer warm

the frost on the back wall of the freezer is the clue to the problem. it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

Freezer not cold enough

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items. If it still has a problem then it might be the compressor and you should probably replace the machine.

Refrigerator not cooling but freezer is

Something has stopped the cold air being ducted from freezer side to refrigerator side of things. Possibly duct blocked due to ice build up, evaporator not self defrosting etc. Turn unit off for a few days till it melts and then turn back on. If it was because a door has been left slightly open you will be ok. If for any other reason you will want to have it serviced in the next week or so.

Refrigerator internal coils freezes

Normally if you defrost a frost free and put it back on then it should operate normally for approx two to three weeks. You probably have a defrost heater, stat or timer not operating correctly. The defrost timer once located can normally be manually turned to a defrost cycle and you can see if the heater kicks in. I would try this with the coil frozen and see if you can see the ice melting. If it fails to melt the ice it is a heater or stat, if it fails to come off defrost then it is a timer fault. Hope this is of some help.

Ice Cream Melting...

the ice on the evap may be the clue. there should not be excessive ice build up and if this has occurred, the ice can jam the fan. try removing the freezer back panel, defrost with a hair dryer, reassemble and see if it works. if it does, the fault lies with the defrost system
