I have a DVD/VCR connected to my Sharp TV - it has been a while since I have watched any movie on this tv - and I cannot seem to remember what I have to do to get the DVD/VCR picture to show thru. The dvd player is working - and you can see where the movie is playing. The TV is an old TV - purchased in the early 1990's.
Select another input on the remote eg.
imput 1 ,2 ,composite
I could not find the manual for your TV, but I did find one for model number 27N-S50 so hopefully they're very similar. If you DVD/VCR is connected to your TV with composite cables (the RED, WHITE, YELLOW cable set) then you need to change the input mode. There should be a button labeled Input on your remote and pressing it will cycle between the various inputs (Cable, Input1, Input2). I would guess your DVD/VCR is connected to Input 1. If you have lost the remote you should be able to get to the other inputs by using the channel selector button. Tune the TV to either the highest or lowest channel in memory and then press either the CH UP or CH DOWN button on the TV to cycle through the various inputs.
The other thing you should know is that there is a recall on this TV related to the power button. I discovered this while looking for the manual on the Sharp website. Go to this website:
http://www.sharpusa.com/products/support/0,2309,,00.html
Type 27R-S50 in the model box and select Television/Home Theater Projectors in the Product box then click on Get Results and you'll get information on the recall.
Also, if the info I've given about how to select the input does not work, there are links on the above site to help you get the correct manual.
Lastly, I don't get paid for this. I know it's a strange hobby, but I like to help out when I can. I hope you'll take a moment and give a prositive rating if this information has been helpful to you. Nearly half of the solutions I've posted have never been rated. Thanks and good luck.
I also meant to mention that if your DVD/VCR is connected to your TV with coaxial cable then you should find the video signal on either channel 3 or 4. You may have to hit a button labeled something like "TV/Video" on the DVD/VCR as well.
I cannot locate the manual for this TV anywhere. Sharp has most of the manuals posted on their website so I can only guess they pulled this manual due to the safety recall. Very frustrating.
Are you using the original remote? I'm surprised there is no Input button. Every other Sharp manual I've looked at for products with very similar model numbers as an Input button on the remote.
Does this set have the YELLOW, RED,WHITE jacks just on the back, or is there a set on the front? If there is a set on the front I would try plugging them in there to see if you get any signal when you're playing a DVD or VHS tape.
A couple more thoughts: Have the YELLOW, RED, WHITE cables been disconnected? If you don't have them securely connected and on the right jack they won't work. Please verify that they are on the correct color and securely plugged in. On my set, if the video cable (Yellow cable) is disconnected the sound will not play even though the red and white cables are plugged in, so this is worth checking. Also, most DVD/VHS combination boxes are smart enough to automatically select the right device when you hit play on the DVD or tape, but it's worth checking that it's playing the right device. I'm guessing you've already tried both DVD's and tapes.
If all this fails I still have some ideas, so don't give up.
It sure seems as though something is physically wrong with either the TV input or the DVD/VCR output. Do you have another VCR or a camcorder you can hook up to the TV to see if that works?
Very good. I did not think to ask about that, you were connected to video and audio inputs on the DVD/VCR rather than the outputs. I'm glad you got it working.

some tv's dont come with rca jacks, what u can do is run your rca's through a vcr and then the vcr to the televison u can do it that way, or take and buy this thing they carry at radio shack, it is a devise that you can hook your dvd player to a junction box that hooks into the same place as a vcr would in the back of your tv, hope this helps jason

I thank you for your help with my issue - the remote I have does not have an "input" button on it. However while hitting the channel "up/down" button I was able to find the channel"input". I am still not able to get any picture from the dvd/vcr player. I have the two connected with the "yellow, white, and red" connections. is there something else that I am not doing ? the only coaxial that is connected is from the wall to the TV.
I do have the original remote - it has a "display" button below the power button and a "setup" button to the right of the power button. the yellow, red and white hookups are on the front of the Tv , and I have triple checked them ( on both machines) to make sure they ar plugged into the correct color and are secure. As you said i also tried playing both DVD and VHs to make sure it wasnt one or the other. Do you think it could be the DVD/VCR player ??
yes I do - I will give that a try. :)
I FIGURED IT OUT !!! :)
there were some additional yellow, white, red connections on the back of the video player - so I connected to those - going from the one section to the next - and it worked !! ( I new it had to be something simple that I was overlooking. )
I was ready to give up and go out and purchase a whole new TV and DVD/VHS combo.
ohiotom - Thank you soo much for all of your assistance!!
