Ok, first off, lets have the computer talk to the modem.
When you first connect to your modem, (Power, phoneline (with filter in the correct port, and Ethernet cable to computer), the accompanying disk will negotiate the setup of your account.
If you already had an account, then proceed:
Connect the RJ45 cable to the computer and the offset port in the back of the modem (RJ45 is the cable that looks like a really big telephone jack, it only goes in one way)
once that is connected, bring up your browser. (Internet explorer)
Do not expect the internet just yet, but if it does, then you modem is working and you do not have wireless with this modem.
after you bring up the browser, type this into the address bar (where you have the http:.....)
192.168.1.254 and hit enter (on your keyboard)
Assuming everything is properly connect and powered up, you should see a display of your modem's internal menu page.
The first page requires some information in order to talk to the ATT servers.
You will need you account login name
[email protected]and your password; the one you set up your account with
save the settings, Power cycle your modem (remove the power plug and after 10 seconds plug it back in)
You should have (left to right)
Power,
Ethernet
DSL
Internet
Activity
If the 5th light blinks on the modem after the restart, you are connected.
Try to surf on your computer.
If you still do not have the 5th light (activity) you may have gotten a bad modem.
good luck and don't forget to vote!!!
