Trying to embroider with the Husqvarna Viking Designer I and the thread either bunches up on bottom or pulls bobbin thread up through design giving a white design What can be the problem

Make sure to install a brand new needle. If that doesn't help, then it's possible the machine has been slightly knocked out of time. Take it for service.

FWIW, I was unable to find any information for turning off the thread portioning function. Unfortunately, this appears to be the thread tensioning system, so disabling the thread portioning would be disabling the thread tensioning--something that is critical to sewing. It appears this model may have some issues and perhaps this one is particular to your machine. It may be best to take it for service.

The easiest way is using software on the computer. Viking has 6D and monograms are very easy.

Check your bobbin area. Make sure you have put the bobbin in the case with the H logo up and the thread pulls off the spool in a counter clockwise motion. Make sure the bobbin is sitting in the case and threaded through the "catch" on the bobbin case. Then leave a long piece of thread from the bottom, holding the end of the top thread, lower the needle for one revolution using the handwheel. Does the top thread catch the bobbin thread and pull it to the top? This is done without fabric. Your checking to determine if the top thread catches the bobbin thread and pulls it to the top. IIf it does not, it is most likely hook/needle timing. f it does, gently pull on the bobbin thread and determine if it pulls through with a little resistence (checking bobbin tension). Make sure you are using correct needle -- Schmitz or Inspira needles are recommended (Universal size 80 is standard). Make sure you are using Husqvarna Viking made for your machine -- original ones were green but there are some new colored ones but all have the Husqvarna logo on them. The threading may be out of the channels. Rethread. Put in a fresh needle. Make sure you are using an embroidery needle and a new one for each new project. You can't use YLI bobbin thread. It stinks. If all this doesn't help, take it in to be checked These work great when there is not thread stuck in the bobbin case and it is threaded properly. If all is well, it will go like gangbusters.

I have changed stabalizers and the type of bobbin thread i am using (invisible poly) and it seemd to have solved the problem. Note: wind invisible thread very slowly and carefully it is like fishing line

Designer 1 bobbin case tension adjustment:
When the bobbin runs out, sometimes it bends the bobbin case tension spring. Then tension is too light. Take the bobbin case out of the machine. Tie the loose bobbin thread to the Designer 1 needle plate. Insert the bobbin in the bobbin case. Here’s the tricky part set the bobbin case on the table as if it’s in the machine (Bobbin is visible and sitting horizontal to table top) threaded as if sewing and loose end tied to needle plate (that is removed from the machine). Lift the bobbin case off the table rotate it so that the flat side of the bobbin are vertical to the table and no longer horizontal. Have the bobbin case oriented so that the thread coming out of the bobbin case sprint (slot area where it is put for sewing) is at the top. Lift it high enough that the needle plate is lifted from the table. It should not release thread unless you shake it gently and then a very small amount of thread. The needle plate is the exact weight resistance your bobbin case should have on the thread.

Check for loose threads or fluff in upper tension unit and bobbin case tension gauged to 14g resistence. Otherwise, service time I'm afraid. Have it serviced by an authorized Husqvarna Viking Service Technician.
