I have replaced my Lexmark #24 ink cartridge many times, but now I get a message that says that cartridge is incorrect...Help! I own a Lexmark x3550 printer.
Tried cleaning; didn't work. Turns out there is a "new" cartridge #24. Printer software requires a "patch" from Lexmark. Don't know why they didn't put a NOTICE in the packaging of the new #24 cartridge...Tried cleaning; didn't work. Turns out there is a "new" cartridge #24. If you have refilled the cartridges you got along with the printer, you can't reset them. 23 and 24 are not meant to be refilled. They are what Lexmark call "return program cartridges"- they can't be refilled, you can send them back to Lexmark ( that's why they are called "return cartridges"). You need to buy either 23A and 24A or 34 and 35, those cartridges are refillable. Here is a link to Lexmark, with a list of cartridge compatibility for your printer: http://lexmark-cartridges.com/cfv2/printer.php?lang=uk&partner=&productName=x3550

“Lexmark does not support the refilling of its ink cartridges. Refilling the ink
cartridges can cause them to leak, thus clogging or even damaging the print
head. Any damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges may not be
covered under warranty”. Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.
Sounds to me like you might need to check for the protective sticker that's on the cartridge where the ink comes out, if it is still on or part of it is still on, this, with Lexmarks, can result in this error message...Best of luck!
There are a small number of #23/#24 cartridges that are not properly recognized by the printer. Lexmark has a firmware upgrade to correct this issue. The upgrade for the X3430 is available from Lexmark at:
Make sure the printer is ON and connected with a USB cable.
Download and run the appropriate firmware upgrade for your computer.
Be sure not to disconnect or power off the printer until the upgrade is complete
When the update finishes the printer will restart and will accept the cartridges. Please contact Lexmark support if this does not fix the problem. This works for the X3550 and X4550 models. A similar patch is available for the X3430 and Z1420 models. See http://bit.ly/LoXxv

Left/Right Cartidge Incorrect - huh?
The printer is saying Left Cartridge Incorrect or Right Cartridge Incorrect, and you are sure that you inserted the correct cartridge, a #23 or #24.
A small number of #23/#24 cartridges will report as Incorrect Cartridge because of a manufacturing issue. There is a firmware upgrade available to fix this problem, and allow the printer to accept the cartridge.
