Epson Stylus CX6400- Error

When I turn my printer on- I get a RED EXclamation light and the lcd reads- Error- Printer error- Refer to printer Documentation and call service- when i open up the printer info on the computer- it says to call service- certain parts needing servicing have reached their end.

I only paid a little over $100.00 for this printer after rebates etc back in 2003- I think its not cost effective to have a $100 + printer serviced!- I'd just as soon buy a BRAND NEW PRINTER ( and it will not be an EPSON!)

Any way to get this to work without calling for service?

Thanks for any help.

On start up the Copy button lights and the red exclamation lights up; the LCD reads "Error, Printer error + See your documentation and call service if necessary." Thanks Epson that's really helpful.

I've downloaded the Epson SSC Service Utility but it generates an error message too: this function not supported in present printer state. Can anyone help, please. The Printer was working fine when I switched it off last night.

    Phil

"Internal Error" with a 45 minute wait to talk to customer service who says "Your ink pads are full so buy a new printer"
How do I fix the ink pads instead?
    Thanks~

This worked me:
Manual reset for Epson CX6400

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold B/W+COLOR+STOP button.
  3. Press and release the power button.
  4. Release the B/W+COLOR+STOP buttons. (My screen said "Init EEPROM")
  5. Press COLOR button to clear protection counter.
  6. Turn off the printer by pressing power button.

My exclamation point was lit and the screen said ERROR, see the manual. The manual said to contact your dealer or EPSON. EPSON Customer Service Tech support couldn't give me any other advice than "you need a new printer, it is a electrical/mechanical problem."
    Your solution fixed my cx6400.

I'm an old man (87 years) and this is how I can keep in touch with my kids who live out of my state. When my printer quit, I didn't know what to do. I can't afford another one and I had just bought more ink.
Now this solution fixed it. I'm so happy that I could jump for joy, If my knees weren't so bad.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Good health and God bless.

I've inadvertently solved this problem by opening the scanning flatbed when the printer is off and then pressing the on button...the printer then reset itself and everything is now fine - oh, and the SSC service utility now works too.

Sounds like the ink counters need resetting (it happens with other printers as well)
