If you attempt to pull the battery, make sure that you have all
other sources of power disconnected (AC power and notebook battery).
Keep the battery out for about five minutes before reassembling the
laptop.
There is no generic BIOS password. If there is one on your computer then someone set it up. If you cannot find that person or remember what it is then you need to reset the BIOS. To reset the BIOS you need to remove all power from the system. Then you will need to open up the notebook to get access to the motherboard to find the BIOS battery which will look like a large watch battery. Remove that for about 1 minute. Then replace everything and start up again.
It is possible that your daughters laptop has a clogged air intake port or dust build-up on the heat sink which cools the processor. With the laptop unplugged and with the battery out, take a soft Bristol brush to the vent ports on the laptop then take your vacuum with the brush attachment and place over the vent while moving slightly. If this does not help then you will need to have your laptop professionally cleaned by a local dealer.
fails battery out so leave it out they love to short.
so when it fails test 2 is, hit the F10 or ESC key promptee
went it fails to boot, check BIOS key first, if BIOS fails.
be more clear.
what does it do when it wont turn on.
BIOS dead. screen 100% dead, and not even text
BIOS works even with HDD and DVD drive pulled.
that is the acid test on PCs.
the screen must say, hit F10? or ESC to enter setup, means HP BIOS. it must or power is no good. get a new power pack
the shut down tell me lost power, that can be the power pack 19vdc
or the jack at the mobo if failing to said pack.
try side pressure on that jack if at anytime the power button fails.
it self shuts down, I got that but lets fix , cant boot first.
that is how to fix this.
power on failures, are you saying the power key fails. some times
and the fan does not run every time.?
Also,
this old LT uses CCFL back lamps.
that love to fail. so when it shut down did the fan die.
did the HDD stop spinning ear to bottom? if not the CCFL is failing.
using and external monitor proves this every time,
do the flash light trick?
http://www.pcdied.com/monitors.html#flashlighttest
not sure whats so tricky is really rather simple the laptop must come apart there is a battery on the mother board it must be removed for aboput 10 minutes this will total clear the bios replace the battery and reassyemble laptop if that dont fix it you may need to flash the bios to repair it.
could be both. first go to the website for support and download the latest bios flash. flash your bios and see if you get your battery back. i have seen this issue appear before on HP units and the only solutions were update bios, if that didnt work. replace motherboard.
i think you cpu may have speed stepping technology this you can read up online but what is does is regulate the speed of the cpu for smooth running. this can be disable in most bios so there may be no need to flash the bios. however iive never seen it bring a cpu speed that low 235mhz. overall you may just need to increase RAM memory. if you can you could also clean out the heat sink.
Could be it needs the DC jack resoldered or replaced. (Sounds like its trying to start off dead battery).. These arent to bad to do compared to others weve repaired. Good luck!
