Is the time and date correct on the displays? Sounds like the phone system lost its programming completely.
Was there a power outage?

Can lexmark x4650 be set to recognize fax?

For more details on how to setup your Lexmark X4650 printer for faxing, please refer to the User's Guide found on the Lexmark website.
Additional info:If you have an answering on the same line as your fax:

To make sure the printer picks up incoming faxes, set Auto Answer to On, and then set the printer to pick up after a greater number of rings than the answering machine. For example, if the answering machine picks up calls after four rings, then set the printer to pick up after six rings. This way, the answering machine picks up calls first and your voice calls are received. If the call is a fax, then the printer detects the fax signal on the line and takes over the call.

If you have a voicemail feature associated in the same line as your fax:

Voice mail and fax can share the same telephone line if you subscribe to a distinctive ring service offered by your telephone company. This feature allows you to have multiple telephone numbers on one telephone line. Each telephone number has a designated ring pattern (single ring, double ring, triple ring, or double and triple ring). The different ring patterns let you know which telephone number was dialed, and which device you should use to answer the call.

If you do not have distinctive ring service, then set the printer to receive faxes manually (Auto Answer Off). This setting lets you receive both voice calls and fax calls, but works best if you use voice mail more often. You need to turn off voice mail whenever you are expecting a fax.

Fax won't answer

Cant receive a fax

Your voice mail is probably answering before the fax can grab the line. Try setting the number of "rings to answer" on the fax to 1 or 2 rings less. The best solution if you only have one phone line is to buy a device called a "comswitch". I use one. They automatically detect if the incoming call is a fax and switch the call to the fax machine. If its not a fax it switches the call to the proper device. They are not that expense. Look on e-bay.

Call Waiting

THere are two answers to you question, depending on certain options and conditions.

First, where is the voice mail and where is the call waiting coming from?

1. If Voice Mail (VM) is located in the central office and you have a destination for call forward BUSY/NO ANSWER it will go to CO VM.

2. If Voice Mail on premise (Partner Mail), and you have CF BUSY/NO ANSWER set on your phone, it will go to voice mail....IF the call waiting is coming from another line. The CF and ring count is set in Partner system programming.

3. If you have call waiting coming on the same phone line and don't have CO VM, then you have no voice mail.

My CO codes for VM are 72# for Call Forwarding and *92 for CF Busy.

As Always, YMMV

Sharp plain paper ink jet fax ux-b750

to stop the fax automatically switching to fax mode you have to set it to manual to recieve calls and dissable the fax, there should be an auto/fax and call mode, therefore when someone calls it will go to your voicemail, but that means that you will not be able to recieve a fax. Normally auto mode, will first try the fax, if no fax is recognised it will switch to normal line ringer, then if no answer it should go to your voicemail if unanswered.
